Avalon Risk Management (“Avalon”) is a specialty insurance broker with offices throughout the U.S. and Canada. We focus on the unique and exciting world of risk management and insurance products for the international trade and logistics industry. Avalon is a privately held company owned by our founding management team. We are looking for a detail-oriented Professional Liability Underwriter for our MGA department. This full-time exempt position reports directly to our Underwriting Supervisor and works from our headquarters in Schaumburg, IL. After an introductory training period new hires are eligible for a hybrid in-office and work from home environment.
We are looking for candidates with at least 3 years transportation underwriting experience that involved financial-based responsibilities and customer service, or 5 years of related industry background. To succeed, one must be detail-oriented and be able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and multi-task. Must be flexible for day-to-day handling of special projects that may arise. Intermediate ability to work with internal policy management software as applicable for specific program assigned. Intermediate Microsoft Office skills are required, especially with Word and Excel. Excellent time management skills are a must, and you must be able to work well with a team and on your own to fully understand why activities are required and eventually explain and train new employees with the same knowledge.
Some of the responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
- Review renewal and new submissions received to make sure they fit program parameters.
- Complete underwriting procedures and provide pricing and quotes to clients.
- Approve and bind coverage within underwriting authority.
- Review, approve and process endorsements for coverage as needed.
- Maintain electronic customer folders with policies, endorsements, and correspondence.
- Complete state and federal filings as needed.
- Assist with maintenance of client files.
- Assist manager/supervisor with audit needs and special projects.
