Position Summary
This position is responsible for providing a safe, educationally stimulating and nurturing environment for children at the AVANCE service sites and teaching developmentally appropriate concepts and skills to young children
Working Conditions
This position requires the ability to visually and audibly monitor children, bend, lift stoop, sit on the floor and pull in variable directions when working with children and equipment. Must be able to lift children from the floor up to 50 pounds, reach overhead and to the floor
Essential Functions
1. Provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences for young children, with a focus on pre-literacy and math skills leading to enhanced cognitive development.
2. Creates and prepares activities according to lesson plans and leads the preparation of materials
3. Follows daily schedule of childrens activities and lesson plans that meet childrens needs and interests
4. Maintains theme areas in the classroom
5. Maintaining accurate, complete and correct records of children such as class attendance, health records and injury reports
6. Assures that parents sign-in all children on attendance sheet
7. Maintains a healthy, safe, stimulating and attractive learning environment for the young children
8. Regulates children in developing eating, resting and toileting skills.
9. Change diapers when needed and ensure each childs personal hygiene by changing clothing when necessary, and teaching them hand washing skills.
10. Labels all children belongings and makes sure parent pick up all belongings at the end of the session
11. Conducts and documents child assessment processes.(administering of Brigance)
12. Attends staff meetings, workshops and trainings as scheduled by supervisor
13. Maintains proper hygiene in the children and all equipment and space used for care of children
14. Protects all children from physical punishment or verbal abuse by anyone in any program activity, and
immediately reports any such incident to the center director or person in charge.
15. Participates in recruitment activities by tabling at community events, canvassing neighborhoods and distributing flyers at targeted locations.
16. Participates in organizing and planning for special events, ex. Holiday Party, Dia de los ninos, graduation etc.
17. Establishes and maintains an environment conducive to positive morale and directed towards achievement of the project mission
18. Ensures high standards of ethics by maintaining high standards for participant confidentiality
19. Facilitates effective resolution of conflicts
20. Maintains a positive attitude
21. Works well with a team and independently
22. Performs other tasks as required
For services provided outside of the AVANCE center:
23. Assist in preparing all materials and supplies transported to external sites and used in the children services.
24. Assists in setting up childrens centers and assorted activities in non-permanent sites and proper removal thereof.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma / or equivalent CDA
Experience
One year of experience in an early Childhood program serving infants and toddlers in a developmentally appropriate environment
License & Certification
Child Development Associate (CDA) or an equivalent credential that addresses comparable competencies preferred not required.
