Job Summary
We are seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer Leader to join our team at Avangrid. This is a challenging role that requires strong leadership and technical skills.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading high-voltage, medium-voltage, and low-voltage transmission design projects for Avangrid. This includes structural and electrical calculations, routing, and preparation of engineering drawings. The electric delivery system in Connecticut consists of approximately 130 miles of transmission lines and 28 bulk electric supply substations.
The Electrical Systems Engineer Leader will report to the Unit Manager Line Projects but will work closely with cross-functional project teams and support project needs as dictated by the UI project manager(s).
Responsibilities
- Capital project engineering performance including all phases such as scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
- Leading and creating new conceptual designs and overseeing the work of external detailed designers.
- Identifying and performing special projects and studies that innovatively solve unique and complex problems with broad impact to the business. Developing alternate methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services.
- Solving unique and complex engineering problems. Identifying innovative solutions.
- Overseeing engineering studies to evaluate equipment and system performance and effectiveness and analyzing operational issues in support of system reliability and operational efficiency.
- Developing and validating information needed for engineering analyses and applying engineering judgment to solve technical problems.
- E nsuring all engineering designs meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes, and standards.
- Representing the company on regional and national committees when needed.
- Utilizing knowledge to influence and guide department engineers. Providing technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department.
- Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills. Ability to collaborate across departments. Liaison/direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices.
- Work independently with little supervision.
