The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from: $138,343.20 - $172,929
This position will be responsible for working with the Director of Governance & Oversight, Security team to implement and maintain Data Privacy program elements at AVANGRID. This will include establishing and maintaining (keeping current), internal privacy processes based on a dynamic regulatory environment and evolving best practices. The candidate will understand privacy compliance requirements (e.g. protecting Personally Identifiable Information, etc.) and establish and maintain processes and procedures for privacy program implementation. The candidate will provide subject matter expertise (SME), as needed to areas in the business, e.g. legal, procurement, risk, etc. The candidate shall participate in integrating Privacy into other cybersecurity projects as assigned, in incident/breach management as required and in Corporate Security Office cross-training.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Scope of work - range of responsibilities):
1.Establish and/or update privacy policy (rules) as new privacy legislation is enacted and new regulatory and self-regulatory requirements are announced. Maintain US Privacy Law matrix.
2. "Humanize" privacy legalese into privacy tactical actions and strategic program initiatives.
3. Implement and maintain a tool to manage the privacy data life cycle.
4. Develop sector specific privacy training and awareness materials.
5. Provide SME as it pertains to privacy-related training and questions posed by the Corporate Security team, business and/or other corporate populations.
6. Partners with BSLs (Business Security Liaison) for key privacy initiatives.
7. Keeps current on regulatory requirements and obligations, best practices, guidance and industry trends.
8. Participate in Iberdrola privacy working group initiatives.
9. Develop data privacy measures of success – metrics and reporting.
10. Liaison with regulatory bodies, as required, Internal Audit, Legal and Compliance stakeholders.
11. Participates in external industry expert forums, groups, and organizations, e.g., NY Joint Utilities working group.
12. Other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Job Description:
Member of the Avangrid Corporate Security & Resilience Organization, team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), responsible for development and oversight of Avangrid’s data/information privacy and data protection program(s).
Education & Experience Required:
- Juris Doctorate (JD) degree with 4 years’ relevant experience or;
- Bachelor’s degree with 7 years relevant experience.
Preferences:
- Paralegal, Privacy and/or Cybersecurity certification(s) a plus.
- Experience in privacy program development, data/information lifecycle, information/data regulatory compliance preferred.
- Data/Information protection standards of best practice interpretation, documentation and implementation experience preferred.
- Policy, process and procedure development, communication and implementation experience preferred.
- Able to exhibit privacy risk identification skills.
- Knowledge of global privacy regulatory obligations. Previous experience working in a multinational company a plus.
- Working knowledge of the regulatory environment for utility companies within United States (Federal and State levels).
- Paralegal or Cybersecurity certification a plus.
- Current industry credentials preferred or in process: CIPP/US, and/or CIPM.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to research and interpret impact of privacy regulatory obligations on AVANGRID businesses.
- Able to provide tactical and strategic program solutions to mitigate identified privacy risks.
- Reasonable understanding of Information Technology (IT) networking, cyber infrastructures, and operations technology environments. Knowledge of NERC-CIP a plus.
- Strong understanding of the information/data life cycle.
- Strong documentation and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity and implications of cyber insecurity.
- Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders locally and globally.
- Ability to effectively communicate privacy requirements and risks to business area leaders.
- Ability to interact at all levels of the organization.
