POSTION SUMMARY:
The Physical Education Teacher encourages participation in challenging physical activity and fosters sportsmanship. Develops habits of personal hygiene. Stresses the importance of safety in the gym and outdoors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and supervise an effective, comprehensive, and equal physical education curriculum for all male and female students.
Interact with the students and to encourage their involvement in activities.
Assist in recruiting, interviewing, screening, and recommending qualified persons to fill physical education instructional staff and extracurricular athletics coaching staff openings.
Prepares and distributes to the students a curriculum guide embodying the philosophy, objectives and specific general activities of the school.
Works closely with teachers to ascertain physical education needs and to provide for these needs within the constraints of the budget.
Conduct periodic review and evaluation of the physical education program, making recommendations for change as deemed appropriate.
Assume a leadership role in acquiring, developing, and utilizing appropriate playing fields, playgrounds and similar facilities.
Establish and adhere to a regular inspection schedule of physical education facility to maintain and improve their safety.
Devise tailor-made physical education activities for individual students or groups of students with special needs, as requested.
Collaborate with the recreation director and the athletics director, as requested.
Interpret the physical education program to the administration, staff and the public.
Provide consistent supervision and evaluation of all students.
Responsible for maintaining equipment and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree in Health and Physical Education.
Physical stamina.
Ability to recognize and record significant individual and group behavior.
Ability to supervise students and other personnel.
Demonstrated judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively.
