Definition:
A Home Health Aide is a person who has completed home health aide training, administered by any qualified organization such as a school, facility or home health agency, and is certified as such by the Department of Health Services.
Qualifications:
1. Certified by the Department of Health Services.
2. Demonstrates competency in any task to be performed.
3. Maintains a proficient command of the English language both verbally and in writing.
4. Exhibits good interpersonal relations with clients and team members.
REPORTS TO: Designated Nursing Supervisor/Registered Nurse
CHHA DUTIES:
1. Measures vital signs and documents, such as findings on every visit.
2. Assists patients with personal hygiene such as bathing, and skin, mouth and hair care.
3. Assists patients in and out of bed, and in ambulation.
4. Assists patients with prescribed exercises (taught by appropriate health personnel).
5. Prepares meals, including therapeutic diets, and assists patients with eating.
6. Assists patients to the bathroom or in using commodes, bedpans or urinals.
7. Performs household services which will facilitate the patient’s self-care at home and are necessary to prevent or postpone institutionalization.
8. Assists patients with medications which are ordinarily self-administered. The HHA shall not administer medications of any kind.
9. Performs other activities as outlined in the plan of care and taught by a health professional for a specific patient. These may include such services as changing non-sterile dressings, measuring vital signs, and bowel and bladder hygiene care.
10. Reports changes in the patient’s condition and needs to the supervising nurse or therapist.
11. Completes records regarding services performed (Flow sheet, HHA Worksheet and Time Slips).
12. Observes for non-compliance of home safety measurements by PT/PCG and reports such findings to the SN/therapist.
13. Assists patient in meeting environmental needs such as changing linens, making the bed, and light housekeeping.
Pay: $40.00 per hour
