Position Summary:
The House Manager at The Flower House oversees daily operations of our transitional housing facility for homeless veterans, ensuring a safe, supportive, and structured environment. This role involves:
- Supervising residents
- Maintaining facility security
- Coordinating with service providers
- Preparing nutritious meals
- Fostering a community atmosphere to support residents’ rehabilitation and growth
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Oversight:
- Maintain the safety and security of the facility, conducting regular inspections
- Address and document incidents promptly, implementing appropriate interventions
- Ensure compliance with fire safety codes and conduct regular drills
Resident Support:
- Foster a positive living environment by organizing house meetings and mediating conflicts
- Assist residents with daily living skills, including meal preparation, household chores, and personal hygiene
- Provide crisis intervention and support, connecting residents with appropriate internal and external resources
Meal Planning and Preparation:
- Plan weekly menus and prepare breakfast and lunch, ensuring meals are nutritious and meet dietary needs
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization, adhering to health and safety standards
- Coordinate with the agency’s contracted nutritionist to ensure nutritional requirements are met
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of resident activities, incidents, and program participation
- Assist with clerical tasks such as filing, rent collection, and managing time/leave calendars
- Collaborate with case managers and other staff to ensure coordinated service delivery
Community Engagement:
- Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations to enhance support services
- Coordinate volunteer activities and community events to promote resident engagement
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of one year of experience in a residential setting (preferably with individuals experiencing homelessness, substance abuse, or mental health challenges)
- Experience in meal planning and preparation for large groups is highly desirable
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish trust and maintain professional boundaries
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Culinary skills with knowledge of nutrition and food safety standards
Certifications:
- Fire Guard Certification required (or must be obtained within six months of employment)
- First Aid and CPR certifications preferred
Work Environment:
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- On-site living may be required depending on program needs
- Moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, and occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds)
