AVANTech is looking for an experienced and highly motivated QA/QC Manager to lead quality efforts at our Knoxville, TN facility, which fabricates nuclear wastewater treatment equipment. This facility requires a hands-on, multi-skilled individual to manage and execute all facets of the QA/QC program.

Position Overview:
The QA/QC Manager will oversee all aspects of quality at the Knoxville facility. This includes inspection, documentation, welder qualifications, procedure control, training, and compliance with our NQA-1 graded QA program aligned with Regulatory Guide 1.143. This role is ideal for a Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) with additional PT/MT certifications who thrives in a hands-on environment and can operate independently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform weld inspections and dimensional verifications
- Conduct NDE (VT, PT, MT); maintain inspection reports and documentation
- Control and verify weld wire and filler materials
- Manage welder qualification testing and records
- Maintain and revise welding procedures (WPS/PQR)
- Conduct quality training and maintain personnel qualifications
- Perform receipt inspections
- Oversee in-process quality checks
- Ensure compliance with QA program, procedures, and customer requirements
- Support quality document control and internal/external audits
- Coordinate closely with the Columbia, SC QA office for program consistency
- Report organizationally to the VP of Quality; daily activities coordinated with the VP of Operations in Knoxville
- Manage M&TE Program and Calibrations
- Oversee Document Control Activities
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in quality roles within fabrication, construction, or industrial settings
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) required
- PT and MT NDE Level II certifications preferred
- Familiarity with ASME, NQA-1, and Regulatory Guide 1.143 requirements
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office and digital QA records
- Capable of working independently with minimal oversight
Preferred Experience:
- Previous hands-on welding or fabrication experience
- Experience in nuclear or wastewater treatment fabrication environments
- Familiarity with internal and third-party audit processes
