Job Description: We are seeking a reliable, hardworking Outside Yard Worker to join our team at AVA. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for supporting our construction operations by assisting with yard organization, materials handling, operating heavy machinery, and may perform a variety of other tasks relating to shipment of products. This is a physically demanding role that involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, with the ability to safely operate heavy equipment in confined spaces.
Responsibilities:
Yard Organization: Assist in maintaining an orderly and safe yard environment by organizing materials, equipment, and tools. This includes sorting construction materials (wood, metal, pipes, etc.) and ensuring all items are properly stored.
Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, Tractor/Trailer, or cranes to move and position materials. Perform routine checks and maintenance on equipment to ensure safety and proper function.
Material Handling: Load, unload, retrieve materials from warehouses and transport to various locations on site. Lift and move heavy items as needed, ensuring materials are ready for use by construction crews, and assisting with filling warehouse orders.
Physical Labor: Perform various physical tasks, including digging, lifting, stacking, and moving construction materials, debris, and equipment throughout the yard and job sites. As well as twisting, pulling and pushing motions.
Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and operating machinery in compliance with company policies.
Maintenance: Assist in maintaining the yard and construction site by clearing debris, cleaning tools, and conducting minor repairs as necessary.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other yard workers, construction teams, and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and meet project deadlines.
Load shipment: Check conditions and weights of vessels to ensure cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures. Monitor product movement to and from storage to ensure constant product flow. Monitor loading processes to ensure they are performed properly.
Drive a light vehicle, such as a truck or van, primarily to pick up merchandise or packages from a distribution center and deliver. May load and unload vehicle. Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, or brakes, to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition.
