Avatar Residential Detox Center is actively seeking Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) to join its detoxification and rehabilitation centers. Responsibilities
- Conduct Psychiatric Evaluations & Mental Health Assessments: Perform mental health assessments for patients entering detox or residential facilities, evaluating psychiatric conditions alongside substance use disorders to guide treatment and identify co-occurring disorders.
- Develop and Implement Individualized Treatment Plans: Create personalized, evidence-based treatment plans that address both mental health and addiction needs, adapting interventions to the unique requirements of individuals in detox or residential settings.
- Prescribe, Monitor, and Adjust Medications: Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medications for underlying mental health issues, adjusting regimens as necessary to support stabilization and recovery during treatment.
- Patient and Family Education: Educate patients and their families on psychiatric conditions, substance use disorders, medications, and the importance of maintaining mental health during detox and residential care, offering self-care strategies.
- Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Treatment Teams: Work with a diverse team of medical providers, counselors, and therapists to ensure holistic patient care, contributing to treatment planning and ongoing evaluations.
- Document Care & Treatment Progress: Maintain accurate documentation of evaluations, treatment plans, and patient progress in electronic health records (EHR), updating regularly to reflect changes in treatment.
- Participation in Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advances in mental health care and addiction treatment practices.
Qualifications
- Educational Requirements: Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited program specializing in Psychiatry or Mental Health, focusing on addiction medicine in detox and residential settings.
- Licensure & Certification: Current NJ RN licensure and PMHNP-BC certification (or eligibility). Additional certification in addiction treatment is a plus.
- Experience: Background in mental health care, especially in detoxification and addiction treatment, with experience in co-occurring disorders preferred.
- Clinical Knowledge: Understanding of psychiatric disorders (mood, anxiety, psychotic) and their relationship with substance use, along with proficiency in pharmacology and evidence-based treatment.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal abilities to engage with patients and families, especially during challenging situations.
- Work Style: Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a treatment team.
- Compassionate Care Approach: Patient-centered care focused on empathy and support for individuals in recovery.
