    • Handle patients with special needs or difficult veins with care, using alternative techniques or equipment as necessary.

  • Sample Handling and Processing:

    • Label all blood samples accurately with patient information and test requisition details, ensuring that there are no labeling errors.

    • Prepare and package specimens for transport to the laboratory, ensuring that they are handled in accordance with specific test requirements (e.g., refrigeration, protection from light).

    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all specimens collected, including the date, time, and type of collection, as well as any issues encountered during the procedure.

  • Infection Control and Safety:

    • Adhere to strict infection control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper disposal of sharps, and hand hygiene practices.

    • Ensure that all equipment, including needles, syringes, and collection tubes, is sterile and used only once.

    • Monitor patients for adverse reactions, such as dizziness or fainting, and provide immediate care as needed.

    • Advise patients on post-procedure care, such as applying pressure to the puncture site and avoiding heavy lifting.

  • Documentation and Record Keeping:

    • Accurately document all aspects of the phlebotomy procedure in the laboratory information system (LIS) or electronic health record (EHR) system.

    • Ensure that patient information is kept confidential and that all records comply with regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • Equipment Maintenance and Inventory:
