What are the responsibilities and job description for the Offensive Coordinator position at Ave Maria University?
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Offensive Coordinator will have primary responsibility for all phases of the Ave Maria Offense. The coordinator will be responsible for orchestrating the portions of practice devoted to Offense as well as game-time execution. The coordinator will also be responsible for the recruitment of both the offensive personnel and a particular geographic region. In addition to the Offensive Coordinator responsibilities, this coach will have other assignments relating to training of a specific position(s). Ave Maria University is a Catholic university, so it is imperative that the candidate has a healthy respect for Catholicism and the culture of the university.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Assist the Head Coach with directing and supervising all activities relative to the Ave Maria Offense. This includes the teaching, training and skill development of student-athletes in preparation for competition.
- Provide technical skill instruction to aid in the development of student-athletes at practices.
- Conduct training sessions with student-athletes geared at skill development.
- At the direction of the head coach, develop and execute practice plans that will prepare the team physically and mentally for competition.
- Assist in the preparation of team for games by contributing strategies and aiding in daily preparation of organized and effective practices.
- Prepare scouting reports on opponents in preparation for competition.
- Monitor student-athletes academic progress, ensuring student athletes meet eligibility standards and advance toward a degree.
NAIA Compliance – Ensure program compliance with NAIA, Sun Conference, and Ave Maria University rules and regulations.
- Responsible for performing all duties within the framework of NAIA rules and regulations.
- Assist in monitoring academics among student athletes, ensuring student-athletes progress in degree advancement and meet NAIA eligibility and University standards.
Recruiting – Assist with recruiting as assigned by the Head Coach or Recruiting Coordinator for the Football Program:
- Assist in evaluating talent and recruiting prospective student-athletes who will be successful in the classroom and contribute positively to the football program and the University community.
- Communicate via phone, text messages, social media, emails and letters, with prospective student-athletes and parents.
- Assist in the planning and directing of the scouting of prospective student-athletes including, but not limited to determining the recruiting events and competitions to attend and the prospective student-athletes to be evaluated.
- Assist with on-campus visits of prospective student-athletes per University and NAIA policies.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s preferred
EXPERIENCE: Three or more years of coaching, preferred

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear in order to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors and outdoors, often in hot and humid conditions, and requires seated, standing, and movement work.
