Avedisian Law — Trusts and Estates Staff Attorney
Location: Chevy Chase, MD
Position Type: Hybrid, Full-Time
Reports To: Managing Attorney
About Us
We are a boutique trust and estates law firm dedicated to providing personalized, exceptional client service at the highest level of legal practice. We take pride in fostering a professional and supportive environment where attorneys and staff can grow together.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, resourceful, highly motivated, and organized individual who aspires to transition into an associate attorney role over time. This hybrid position offers a unique opportunity to build core legal skills while also supporting the administrative needs of the firm.
Job Overview
This dual-role position is designed for a candidate who has both the foundational legal training (J.D. required, with Maryland, DC, or Virginia bar admission preferred or pending) and the capacity to handle essential administrative duties. The ideal candidate will spend part of their time engaging in substantive legal work—such as attending client meetings and drafting estate planning documents—and the remainder of their time supporting the firm’s day-to-day operations, including scheduling, coordinating meetings, scanning, and general administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Duties:
- Drafting and Document Preparation: Assist in the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents as well as submissions to local probate courts.
- Client Meetings: Participate in client meetings, gather essential information, and help guide clients through the estate planning process.
- Case Management: Support ongoing cases, maintain organized case files, track key deadlines, and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Client Communication: Field client inquiries and provide updates, under the direction of the supervising attorney, ensuring responsive and professional communication.
Administrative Duties:
- Scheduling and Coordination: Manage the firm’s calendar by scheduling client appointments, coordinating internal and external meetings, and tracking important deadlines.
- Document Management: Organize and maintain both digital and physical files, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with firm policies. Handle scanning, filing, copying, and mailing of documents.
- Data Entry and Form Management: Enter client information into case management systems and draft client intake forms, letters, and templates.
- Client Support: Communicate with clients, assist in completing necessary forms, and facilitate information exchange between clients and the firm.
- Vendor and Office Coordination: Assist with ordering office supplies, coordinating with service providers, and maintaining office efficiency.
Qualifications
- Education and Licensing: J.D. from an accredited law school. Bar admission (or pending admission) strongly preferred in Maryland, DC, or Virginia.
- Experience: Prior experience in a law firm, clerkship, or legal internship setting is preferred. Familiarity with estate planning matters is a plus, but not required.
- Skills:
- Legal Skills: Strong legal research, writing, and analytical abilities.
- Organizational and Administrative Skills: Excellent attention to detail, time management, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication, with a professional and empathetic demeanor suited to client-facing work.
- Technology: Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Environment (Office, Excel, Teams, SharePoint), Adobe Acrobat, and case management software. Willingness to learn new tools and adapt to evolving technologies.
Compensation
Compensation will be determined based on candidate’s experience. Additionally, this position is bonus-eligible. Bonuses are awarded at the firm’s sole discretion based upon performance and contributions to the firm as a whole.
Opportunities for Growth
This role is designed as a stepping-stone toward an associate attorney position. As you become more proficient with the firm’s legal work and demonstrate strong legal acumen, there will be opportunities to take on increased responsibility, lead client engagements, and contribute more substantively to legal strategy and firm growth.
Application Process
To apply, please submit your resume, cover letter, and the names and contact information for two references to info@avedisianlaw.com. We look forward to reviewing your application and potentially welcoming you to our team.
