What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Development Education Specialist position at Avem Health Partners?
JOB PURPOSE:
The Staff Development Education Specialist (SDES) works with the Clinical Operations Staff, Human Resources Staff and Hospital staffs to implement all aspects of the Staff Development program. The incumbent will develop, implement and monitor programs that support the education and professional development of Avem Health employees. This includes understanding the education process including research, assessment, design, development, delivery, and assessment of learning initiatives and responsibility for design techniques which include on the job learning maps, clinical leadership development and education, mentor opportunities, interactive course development, as well as experiential cohort learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Collaborate with home office and facility leaders to meet all aspects of the education process including ongoing needs assessment, session planning, objective writing, learning delivery, evaluation.
- Design and development learning materials which are developed in adherence with adult learning principles.
- Continually make recommendations for modifications of learning sessions to ensure ongoing effectiveness and that objectives are being met by observing staff performing work and making compliance rounds, through recommendations received by staff, by analyzing staff annual competency evaluations.
- Develop, implement and monitor a new employee clinical orientation program for all clinical staff at the hospitals and home office.
- Implements competency-based initial and annual training program that may include online training and in-person hands-on skills fairs.
- Supports a Meditech training program and assists Information Technology staff in addressing clinical issues with Meditech.
- Serve as the point of contact for Memorandums of Agreements between college/university clinical rotations and the hospitals.
- Understand and develop resource materials for State Nursing standards, Critical Hospital Standards, and identify learning needs of staff in these areas; evaluates compliance with regulatory standards.
- Monitor staff compliance with licensure, basic and advanced life support and coordinate regular training opportunities for clinical staff.
- Consult with the Hospital Administrator and facility Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in formulating the goals and objectives of the orientation and on-going in-service educational programs at the facility.
- Work collaboratively with the facilitys Quality Manager and other members of the Clinical Services Team to coordinate the resolution of care and service delivery issues to attain desired standards.
- Coordinate with appropriate staff to develop standard emergency response codes and training for patient coding, combative patient, eloped patient, fire response, work-place violence, active shooter, and other potential emergency incidents.
- Review and make recommendations on Continuing Education workshops and conferences for staff requiring specific certifications or to maintain credentials and licensure.
- Offers input during the development of standards and procedures.
- Participates in departmental quality improvement projects.
- Participates in the evaluation of performance improvement and regulatory requirement data collection.
- Supports the educational components of the organizations clinical initiatives and practices.
- Own and manage multiple development deliverables simultaneously and will support other projects as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned within scope of practice.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
- Two (2) years of professional instructional design and development experience in a corporate training setting.
- Two (2) years of experience in project management and project deployment preferred.
- Deep knowledge of adult learning theory and how to apply it in the design of learning experiences.
- MS Office proficiency.
- Technical Writing experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with diverse teams.
- Ability to learn new tools and processes quickly with little guidance or documentation.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
- Current Oklahoma or Compact state RN license.
- Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification (or obtained within 30 days of hire).
- Valid drivers license.
