Purpose
Responsible for origination, underwriting, and management of a commercial loan portfolio at the Credit Union. Offers support of business owners and individuals who have existing or prospective relationships with the Credit Union. Responsible for analysis and evaluation of credit requests including financial information, structuring loan proposals (extensions, renewals, modifications), and making recommendations for sound credit management. Manages financial reporting, covenant tracking, tickler lists and past dues. Maintains adherence to policies and procedures in support of current operations and in compliance to all rules, regulations, and laws. Performs duties in compliance with regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Engage in sales calling and networking activities in support of relationship growth objectives including loans and deposits. Promote and develop new business and cross sell credit union products and services.
- Responsible for achieving or exceeding commercial lending goals including originating, underwriting, documenting, and monitoring loans.
- Interview loan applicants, collect and analyze financial and related data to determine the general creditworthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request.
- Collect and analyze information that reflects the current creditworthiness of members, and the current merits of existing loans.
- Establish and negotiate the terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment method and timing, and impose any collateral requirements.
- Monitor loan payment activities and take necessary actions to effect collections.
- Advise and assist members, as much as is practical, on business management and financial matters.
- Ensure the credit union’s interest in matters of adequate documentation and adherence to credit union policies, governing laws, rules and regulations.
- Ensure appropriate due diligence and collateral perfection is complete.
- Ensure the exercise of sound credit decisions in the commercial lending area.
- Help maintain a member centric culture, ensures relationships are serviced a in timely and accurate manor.
- Keep abreast of lending regulations, laws, regulatory and professional guidance and best practices and communicate these matters accordingly.
- Review, analyze, evaluate and recommend appropriate changes to commercial products, services, and processes.
- Monitor and report commercial loan portfolio data to stakeholders in support of planning, budgeting, and financial and regulatory reporting.
- Stay current on, and keep management abreast of, current and forecasted market conditions that can impact the loan portfolio.
- Conduct relationships in a manner that enhances the credit unions sustainability, overall marketing and community presence.
- Participate in job related training, programs and attend meetings, seminars and conferences as deemed necessary.
- Acts as a non-voting member of Credit Committee as needed.
- Attends/completes all compliance training and education.
- Performs duties in compliance with regulatory requirements including, but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Works in the spirit of the credit union’s purpose and values.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Requirements, & Skills

Education/Certification
High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field strongly preferred.
Required Experience
Three to ten-years of experience in commercial lending and analysis preferred. Previous work experience in a bank or credit union dealing directly with commercial clients, assessing credit risk, funding loans, and overseeing commercial loan cycles and portfolios. Experience growing a sound commercial portfolio required. Opening business related deposit accounts, a plus.
Required Knowledge
Understanding of accounting and finance, including working knowledge of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow. Familiarity with GAAP related to credit risk. Experience with loan documents, lending cycles and applicable rules, regulations and laws.
Skills/Abilities
Ability to analyze financial information, assemble reports with actionable data and make recommendations. Sales and networking skills. Microsoft Office skills. The ability to work with multiple systems. Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with members, co-workers, management, vendors, regulators and auditors. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
