Job Description:

ELOS Environmental, an Aventia Company, is looking to add a motivated Archaeological Field Technician to our team who has a proven technical background in cultural resources. This position involves providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to government, military, and commercial clients throughout the Southeastern United States, primarily in Louisiana. All work will be conducted under the guidance of senior cultural resources staff. At ELOS, Archaeological Field Technicians work on projects that require compliance with federal and state regulations, including the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), the Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and the Native American Graves Repatriation and Protection Act (NAGPRA). The Archaeological Field Technician will be responsible for working on all aspects of cultural resources projects. These include, but are not limited to: background research; fieldwork (Phase I survey, Phase II testing, and Phase III mitigation); assisting with NEPA and NHPA technical reports; evaluating properties for eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP); and completing site survey forms. The applicant must be organized, capable of performing physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions, and will be required to travel locally. This job will require 25% fieldwork to collect data and 75% office work to process data, write reports, and work with the project manager to complete other required tasks

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with compliance with NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, NEPA, state environmental regulations, and other laws relating to cultural resources.
  • Conduct archival research and background records reviews.
  • Conduct all aspects of archaeological fieldwork (Phase I-III) and monitoring.
  • Process, identify, and analyze prehistoric and historic artifacts.
  • Conduct analyses and prepare technical reports for cultural resources management projects.
  • Provide support and work with senior-level cultural resources staff.
  • Assist with leading field crews on archaeological investigations.
  • Prepare and create technical, high-quality scientific reports, site form preparation, research, and literature reviews within scope, on budget, and on time.
  • Assist with all aspects of cultural resources projects, including fieldwork, research, and report writing.

Qualifications


Job Requirements:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, History, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 months of professional archaeological experience.
  • Must have completed an archaeological field school.
  • Experience in both terrestrial and underwater archaeology is preferred but not necessary.
  • Basic knowledge of historic preservation laws and policies, including, NEPA, NHPA, ARPA, and NAGPRA.
  • Experience using GPS technology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be capable of walking for long periods of time over unfamiliar terrain, excavating shovel tests and test units, screening soil, and carrying field equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel frequently and for long periods of time, as needed.
  • Must be motivated and able to work safely with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent editing, technical writing and English grammar skills.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's (Required)
  • Register of Professional Archaeologists-certified is preferred.
