Job Purpose : The Senior Accountant, Sales and Use Tax is responsible for the Company's compliance with state sales / use and telecom tax laws and the accurate recording of the Company's tax liability on the general ledger. This role will manage outsourced resources for indirect tax research and compliance. Additionally, the incumbent will reconcile and validate data provided to outsourced firm for purposes of tax compliance, coordinate efforts to respond to tax audits, and work with various internal departments to implement procedures and controls to accurately capture sales / use and telecom tax at the time of the transaction.
Essential Duties :
Manage the indirect tax compliance process with outsourced tax consulting firmReconcile detail tax reports with various billing systems and General Ledger to ensure integrity of tax data submitted to outsourced firmWork closely with the Billing Dept and IT to resolve reconciliation differences arising from system processing issuesCoordinate research of tax issues with tax consulting firmCoordinate response to state and local governmental sales / use and telecom tax audits as well as regulatory fee audits, including the gathering of information requested by auditorsMitigate tax liability issues by working with the Accounts Payable team on the application of use tax and by providing guidance to the Billing team related to taxability of various products and transactions as they ariseImplement and communicate new policies, procedures and controls to accurately capture sales and use tax and the time of the transactionAnalyze and reconcile complex indirect tax general ledger accounts monthly and resolve reconciling differences timelyPrepare journal entries to record tax collections and other adjustments monthlyPrepare regulatory reporting and payment requests, as assignedRenew business licenses as neededComply with department internal control guidelines; update internal procedures as appropriateAssist with special projects related to new product rollouts, system enhancements, implementing efficiencies and company initiativesPerform other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :
Strong analytical skills with the ability to research new revenue streams for taxability and compliance.Ability to problem-solve with a proactive and results-oriented mindsetEffective interpersonal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively both internally and externally.Work independently, as well as in a team environment.Must be results-oriented with a focus on meeting filing and department deadlinesExcellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and follow-through in a fast-paced work environment.Intermediate Excel skillsAbility to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on department deadlines and company initiativesMinimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED5 years of experience to includeSales / use tax compliance experience or experience managing outsourced indirect tax compliance function
Complex reconciliation experience and issue resolutionTax research experienceGeneral ledger experiencePreferred Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or other relevant area of studyExperience with telecommunications tax and telecommunications regulatory environmentERP experience, including implementation of new ERPPhysical Requirements :
