Library Assistant 2 - Youth Services (Part-Time)

Job Summary:

You create amazing experiences for our library patrons – especially children, parents, and caregivers. You work cooperatively and effectively with others to deliver excellent service, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness. You help develop and implement creative library programs. You understand customer needs and enjoy connecting them with the right library materials. You engage well with others and are passionate about providing an exemplary customer experience. You’re able to share your passion for library services and enjoy talking about and offering meaningful recommendations of the latest books, movies, and music. You are an explorer; you are out on the floor with library customers helping them with their journey through our amazing library.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Looking for a dedicated worker who can help staff our children's desk and provide night and weekend help.
• Assists patrons with locating materials, using computers, or explaining procedures (checking out, logging onto the Internet, making copies, etc.)
• Assist with circulation activities including patron orientation, creating book displays, shelving, etc.
• Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.
• Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• H.S. Diploma or GED required,
• 1 year library experience preferred.
• Some childcare experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent listening and communication abilities.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include some weekend and evening work.

Work Environment:

• Fast paced public library
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in a library setting, using telephone and computer

Physical Demands:

• Ability to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
• The person in this position frequently communicates via telephone
