Position Summary: Provide ongoing, year-round support to high school Juniors and Seniors enrolled in the Avenue Scholars (AS) program, directly contributing to the mission of Avenue Scholars by bridging the gap between education and the business world. This role involves offering a holistic approach to student development, including academic, social/emotional, and vocational guidance. Through personalized, one-on-one coaching, you will work to identify and address any obstacles or challenges students may face, whether related to personal or family circumstances, educational difficulties, or other life challenges. Your support will play a crucial role in ensuring that students overcome these barriers, ultimately helping them succeed both in their academic pursuits and their future professional endeavors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of the Director of High School Programs, you will lead the recruitment and selection of program participants at your assigned high school.
- Leads, instructs, and guides students through AS’ curriculum and Senior Academy/Senior Experience programming.
- In collaboration with the Business Outreach Team, assist students in exploring career options and determine what career may align with their interests, skills, and abilities, then work to secure student employment.
- Facilitates student participation in career awareness/exploration events.
- Assesses individual needs and determines a suitable course of action to meet realistic and attainable personal, academic, and career goals, while providing access to community resources as necessary. Evaluation of progress is a must.
- Performs summer activities such as writing lessons, planning and supervising student-centered activities, and maintaining relationships with students.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with staff and administration at assigned high school. Utilizes such individuals as resources in their areas of expertise to support programming and address student needs.
- Participates in Professional Learning Communities, staff meetings, and other collaborative forums to promote student progress.
- Utilizes AS’ technology platforms (e-mail, Salesforce, Canvas, Slack, etc.) to effectively communicate, deliver programming, and collect and use data to monitor student progress.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to effectively manage a classroom, engage students, and facilitate progress among a variety of learners within a classroom. Ability to develop and provide meaningful curriculum and experiences that benefit students’ readiness for postsecondary education/training and careers.
- Knowledge of basic adolescent development and teaching fundamentals.
- Knowledge of school and community resources available to meet student needs, along with high school policies and procedures.
- Maintains knowledge of high-demand, financially sustaining career options in the Omaha area job market.
- Knowledge of scholarship opportunities as well as local postsecondary education/training options.
- Ability to advocate for students and represent the organization in a positive, professional manner.
- Ability to relate well with diverse populations and at-risk teens and young adults.
- Must operate with a high degree of professionalism and accountability.
- Must be punctual in attending work-related events, responding to communication, and completing assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant education, human services, or workforce development field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Nebraska educator’s certificate/permit with secondary grade-level endorsement is required.
- 2 years of experience in education, human services, or workforce development is required.
- 2 years of experience providing services to youth and young adults of financial need age 16-22 is preferred.
- 2 years of successful teaching experience in a large urban high school is preferred.
- Bilingual skills are preferred.
