Overview:
The Staff Accountant assists the finance department with monthly closings, financial reporting, account and budget analysis, and performs various general ledger maintenance duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Sr. Accountant and Controller with financial statement preparation
- Prepare reports to assist the Controller with the budget
- Report and analyze budget variance
- Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations
- Assist management with UDS and Medicare/Medicaid Cost reports
- Identify control issues and recommend corrective actions
- Reconcile daily cash transactions
- Prepare and review closing entries
- Prepare analysis of aging accounts receivable
- Ensure accrual entries are reversed
- Maintain various spreadsheets for fixed assets, grants, and accruals
- Run payroll related reports for management
- Verify employee hours
- Update and maintain payroll files.
- Assembling reports of company earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability payments, and non-taxable wages
- Coordinating year-end employee tax slips or forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines.
- Maintaining confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standards
- Working with cross-functional leaders to ensure benefits and payroll services are delivered.
- Monitoring and analyzing expenses against the payroll budget to help prepare cost forecasts and budgets.
- Checking timesheets and activity logs for accuracy
- Secure time sheets, certify accuracy, and prepare them within organized time limits.
- Entering data into databases and spreadsheets
- Handling direct deposit requests and data
- Acquiring approval prior to accepting payroll
- Coordinating wage garnishments, and other correspondences
- Process multi-state payroll
- Conduct regularly scheduled audits of payroll records to ensure continued accuracy.
- Collect, verify, and record employee attendance, including hours worked.
- Compute wages, commissions, and deductions
- Handle employee complaints about incorrect payments and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist finance team with monthly closings
- Other functions as assigned by the Sr. Accountant, Controller, and Chief Financial Officer.
Education, Licensure/Certification:
- Must have bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from accredited institution
Experience, Skills/Abilities Related Requirements:
- 0-3 years’ experience in similar position
- Health Care experience a plus Reconciliation and account analysis experience
- 10—key experience
- Knowledge of accounting and payroll systems
- Must be able to work independently
Continuing Education and Training Requirements:
- Participates in trainings required by the agency, funding source(s), and/or as required by licensure if applicable.
