A Brief Overview
Provides public health nursing care according to specific client/family needs in the areas of family planning, maternal and child health, school health, communicable disease, individual health services, and related health care programs.
What you will do
- Provides nutrition education to Women, Infant, and Children Supplemental Food Program participants by determining eligibility based on medical or nutritional needs. Provides education in the areas of infant care, growth and development, safety, nutrition, parenting skills and changes in life style. Assesses the health and healthcare needs of families and individuals who would benefit from health promotion.
- Conducts health assessments and school health education programs by providing health appraisals for Preschool and school age children and promoting prevention and wellness. Gives referrals and follow-ups when necessary.
- Provides maternal and Child Health (MCH) counseling and education in the areas of prenatal care, infant care, growth and development, safety, parenting skills, special needs children, family planning, and changes in lifestyle.
- Provides community health education on various topics.
- Provides/assists with Children’s Special Health Services (CSHS) clinic services and care coordination of children with special needs.
- Serves as local liaison with county commissioners, health professionals, and agencies.
- Provides services to contracted local schools.
