About the Role
Assists in coordinating, planning, implementing and facilitating programs and counseling services on an outpatient basis. The Outpatient Therapist's responsibilities may include several of the following areas: individual, group and family counseling, crisis services/evaluation, tele-therapy services, and current and future groups/programs.
All of these areas may involve providing assessments, facilitating treatment and crisis intervention of clientele affected by mental health or dual diagnoses issues. Providing community/education services will be a part of this position and some travel is occasionally required.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinates a clinical treatment program for the diagnosis, treatment or referral of clients/patients presenting moderate to severe social adjustment problems.
- Adheres to policies which assure the confidentiality of client communications. Provides for a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to the treatment of clients, coordinating same with appropriate hospital departments.
- Conducts individual, family, or group therapy sessions in accordance with accepted principles of the National Association of Social Workers.
- Assesses progress of clients/patients and modify or extend treatment program accordingly. Coordinates care of clients/patients with referring physician or agency.
- Documents therapy in accordance with hospital policies and procedures on medical records.
- Intervenes as a crisis counselor in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment such as substance abuse, suicide attempts, psychotic episodes and other instances as outlined in hospital policy.
- Refers client or patient to outside agencies where appropriate.
- Communicates with family members/significant others in order to further the effectiveness of client/patient treatment and progress.
- Coordinates client/patient billing and modify treatment program in accordance with insurance coverage, plan provisions, and individual ability to pay.
- Provides educational programs on a variety of psychological topics to hospital/community groups as requested.
Requirements
- Masters degree in Counseling or related field.
- Licensed Professional Counselor - Mental Health (LPC-MH) or equivalent.
- 4-6 years related experience and/or training.
- Clinical experience facilitating group therapy sessions and providing individuals counseling services.
- Experience working with clients having dual diagnoses issues (addictive disorders in conjunction with mental health conditions).
- Clinical experience with couples and/or family therapy.
