Job Title:
An Operating Room Technician (OR Tech) plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of surgical procedures. Key responsibilities include preparing for surgeries, directly assisting surgeons during procedures, and maintaining aseptic techniques throughout.
Key Responsibilities
- Operative Duties: Prepares the operating room, monitors aseptic technique, maintains a sterile surgical field, and assists the surgeon/circulating nurse as needed.
- Maintenance of Equipment: Achieves and maintains working knowledge of OR machinery and equipment, performs duties within established policies and procedures for the central supply area, and assists with receiving and verifying correct orders.
- Endoscopy Procedures: Maintains a working knowledge of cleaning, disinfecting/sterilizing endoscopy equipment and transporting equipment/instruments for sterilization.
- Stock Management: Maintains stock levels of sterile supplies, assists in collecting, transporting, and distributing supplies related to OR and may assist with delivery of additional supplies throughout the facility.
- Documentation: Maintains precise documentation regarding the sterilization process according to department policies and procedures.
- Patient Care: Assists in transferring and positioning patients from carts to the OR bed.
- Teamwork: Takes responsibility and accountability for assisting in meeting the established departmental budget by making effective use of time/resources and assists with on-the-job training and orientation of new staff.
Qualifications:
- Education: Technical Certificate or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification: Certified Surgical Tech (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) is preferred.
