A Brief Overview
In this highly collaborative role, the Vice President of Ethics builds ethics capacity, competency, and sensitivity within Avera Health and Regional facilities through system-wide ethics education, consultation, policy review, and formation experiences grounded in the Catholic theological tradition and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, 6th Edition.
What you will do
- Lead, serve on, and transform ethics committees and ethics processes by providing education, consultation and research in response to needs of the organization and from clinicians, executive leaders, and committees across the system.
- Leverage advanced knowledge of curriculum design and evaluation through design and presentation of ethics-related education and formation programs in a variety of formats to various audiences throughout Avera.
- Reviews clinical pathways, contracts, marketing materials, policies, and potential organizational partnerships to highlight ethical challenges and implications and to ensure adherence to the Catholic moral tradition.
- Serves on work teams and committees at the system and regional level (e.g., IRB, clinical service lines, peer review, interview teams, etc.), providing comprehensive ethical and theological leadership as well as analysis and education that promotes the integration of Avera Health's mission, values, and vision into strategic and operational decision-making.
- Works cooperatively with all necessary stakeholders to ensure regional ethics committees are functioning at their highest use and capacity.
- Contributes to academic scholarship and peer networking within Catholic health care.
- Participates, as directed, in communicating with the local ordinary or his representatives regarding ethical issues related to Avera Health's operations.
- Engages with community leaders, community organizations, and academic institutions to elevate ethical decision making and moral values in the life of the community.
