A Brief Overview
Initiates and oversees business processes associated with clinical trials throughout all phases of the trial. This will include financial set-up, budget negotiations, and ensuring compliance for research patient billing. This position will provide day-to-day accounting for all research projects conducted by the research department and ensure transactions between departments, patient accounts and sponsors are processed in an accurate and timely manner. Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and governmental or sponsor requirements and the Avera Compliance Department.
What you will do
- Completes a comprehensive coverage analysis in accordance with Medicare regulations to determine billable and non-billable costs of research, translating that information into an accurate study budget and negotiating with outside sponsors.
- Provides appropriate documentation to support billing to patient/insurance provider for routine care charges vs billing to research.
- Ensures consistency of the payment terms in the coverage analysis with the research protocol, the informed consent, the budget, and the contract.
- Monitor clinical research patient accounts and collaborate with research, billing, and finance departments to resolve any patient account issues and ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
- Utilizes the clinical trial management software to develop study budgets, track protocol enrollments, research participant milestones, and invoice research sponsors. Monitors outstanding invoices and track the research accounts receivable balance.
- Prepares research financial reports for Avera research administration.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's a scientific, healthcare, business or related filed
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- HCPCS/CPT coding
- Hospital billing
- 1-2 years related research experience and/or training
