A Brief Overview
The Executive Director – Revenue Integrity leads a team of revenue cycle directors/managers to develop and maintain revenue integrity functions consistent with the mission and vision at Avera and is responsible for the consolidated Charge Description Master. This position also serves as their primary liaison to Avera's revenue cycle executive leadership. The Executive Director – Revenue Integrity strategically leverages the organizations distinct capabilities, identify and communicate emerging industry trends and lead the execution of broader revenue cycle changes across the system. The Executive Director maintains a familiarity with the responsibilities of Avera's regional locations to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and understand the connection of workflows across revenue cycle. This individual will assume responsibility for achieving key performance metrics and meeting operating standards set by revenue cycle and executive leadership.
What you will do
- Provide leadership and direction to a team of system-wide revenue cycle leaders to ensure Avera’s strategic revenue cycle vision and operational goals are met by using strong knowledge base, designing strategic initiatives and by leveraging the talents and expertise of leadership and individual contributors. Accountable for the results of the department and how they overall impact the health system.
- Develops and manages operational initiatives with measurable outcomes. Formulates objectives, goals and strategies to achieve optimal productivity, operational effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction of internal and external customers. External customers include patients, referring providers, physicians and third-party payers; empowering leaders to implement changes, as appropriate, to maximize efficiency.
- Guide the development & implementation of new revenue cycle policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure efficient, effective processes are in place for revenue cycle. Coordinates communication with Information Technology (IT) to ensure appropriate systems, enhancements and tools are utilized to effectively managed Revenue Integrity operations.
- Ensure all employees within span of control are afforded a professional, positive, and structured work environment, including but not limited to the following: regular staff meetings either virtually or in person, appropriate prioritization of work with assigned weekly and/or monthly goals, personalized review of productivity and metric performance, customized coaching and training for professional growth, and the opportunity to provide and obtain continual feedback and recognition.
- Provide opportunities to aspiring leaders to develop skills to meet career goals. This is done through coaching/mentoring to leaders to achieve financial and operational goals and guides the development of next leaders for succession planning.
- Proactively analyze and identify performance trends and offer data driven recommendations to revenue cycle & clinical leadership to strengthen performance against KPI’s and enforce execution of best practice policies and procedures.
- Monitor and analyze financial data for decisions regarding staffing and technology needs while being accountable to overall operational budget for assigned departments. Establishes an annual operating and capital budget, demonstrating fiscal responsibility through meeting budget targets. Creates business plan(s), justifying variances and analyzing cost benefit of programs. This may include vendor relations and workforce sourcing. Work closely with next level leader to establish annual budget, monitors contracts and budget throughout the year.
- Provide clear and compelling communication while referencing the organizations vision and strategy while being an active contributor to the strategy and implementation efforts of continued revenue cycle consolidation across the enterprise, promoting best practice process improvement across all functional areas.
- Act as the primary liaison between Avera’s revenue cycle managers, executive leadership, physicians and clinical care teams as well as vendor partners throughout the Avera system.
- Engage stakeholders to resolve complex challenges collaboratively.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and leading work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- Bachelor's in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
- Drivers License - Licensing Board
- 7-9 years Revenue Cycle experience.
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
- EPIC systems experience.
