Job Summary
The School Nurse plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of students within the school environment. Responsibilities
- Assess and manage student health needs, including administering first aid and emergency care as necessary.
- Maintain accurate medical records for each student, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
- Provide care for students with chronic conditions, infectious diseases, and urgent health concerns.
- Administer medications and injections as prescribed, including experience in venipuncture when necessary.
- Develop and implement health plans for students with specific medical needs.
- Educate students, staff, and parents on health-related topics, including nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Monitor immunization records and ensure compliance with state health regulations.
- Collaborate with local health agencies to manage outbreaks of infectious diseases within the school community.
- Participate in emergency preparedness planning and respond to medical emergencies effectively.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license (RN).
- Experience in inpatient or outpatient settings preferred.
- Knowledge of physiology and emergency medicine principles essential for effective student care.
- Familiarity with medical records systems to maintain accurate documentation of student health information.
- Experience administering injections is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff members.
