ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a highly motivated Fuel Fabrication Engineer to join the Injection Casting Development team. This role is part of a high-functioning team of engineers focused on process development for nuclear fuel fabrication for sodium-cooled fast reactors. Responsibilities include laboratory-based process development, chemical analysis, and acting as custodian of laboratory equipment and samples.
- Perform a wide range of laboratory-based research and development activities to support initiatives.
- Generate test reports documenting analytical chemistry and resulting data to capture new knowledge related to fuel design and qualification.
- Act as custodian and expert operator of laboratory equipment (e.g., C/N/O analyzer, ICP-MS), including developing procedures and training users.
- Perform characterization for a wide range of sample specimens.
- Assist with the design, fabrication, and operation of custom laboratory experiments.
- Safely handle radiological material samples in accordance with company processes and state law.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- A B.S. degree; or an advanced degree with related experience, or equivalent experience. A degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience is required.
- Laboratory management experience, such as maintaining spaces and equipment or training users, is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work with minimal direction to solve complex problems.
- Strong communication skills, integrity, and teamwork-oriented mindset.
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with chemical analysis and characterization methods.
- Familiarity with handling radiological materials.
