Position Summary:
The Commercial Lines Risk Specialist is responsible for managing a book of business, which includes processing renewals, remarketing policies as needed, and occasionally supporting new business efforts. This role emphasizes building and maintaining strong client relationships, with a team-oriented approach to client management. The specialist must possess extensive knowledge of available insurance markets through the agency’s carriers and demonstrate a passion for continuous improvement. An active Property and Casualty Insurance License is required to ensure expertise and compliance within the industry. This position suits someone with strong communication skills, a proactive attitude, and a solid understanding of the property and casualty insurance space. Hybrid or In-Office at our Wolfeboro, NH or Portsmouth, NH office - work arrangement negotiable .
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Client Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships with clients. Serves as the main point of contact for clients, addressing their needs, concerns, and providing ongoing support in collaboration with the Risk Advisor. Maintain a 24-hour turnaround time in responding to client inquiries and matters related to coverage.
- Policy Management: Overseeing the entire lifecycle of commercial insurance policies, including renewals, endorsements, and policy changes and day to day servicing needs such as certificates and evidence of property insurance. Ensure that clients' policies are up-to-date and compliant with industry regulations.
- Risk Assessment and Coverage Recommendations: Analyzing clients’ business risks and recommending appropriate coverage options to ensure they are adequately protected. This includes evaluating the client's needs and providing guidance on suitable policies, limits, and coverages.
- Renewals and Retention: Managing the renewal process for client policies, preparation of a pre-renewal file, ensuring timely and accurate submissions and completion of applications. Diligent efforts to retain clients by addressing their concerns, recommending necessary adjustments to policies, and providing value-added services.
- Cross-Selling and Upselling: Identifying opportunities to offer additional coverage or services to clients, such as bundled policies, risk management services, or specialty coverages and endorsements.
- Collaboration with Underwriters and Brokers: Working closely with underwriters and insurance carriers to obtain quotes, negotiate terms, and ensure the best coverage for clients. Works to stay informed on available products and carriers in the market.
- Claims Support: At times, assisting clients with the claims process, acting as an advocate between the client and the insurance carrier. This involves ensuring that claims are processed efficiently and helping clients understand their coverage and benefits.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, policies, and documents. They must also ensure that all activities comply with industry standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Client Education: Educating clients on their policies, risk management strategies, and any changes in insurance laws or market trends that might impact their coverage needs.
- Problem-Solving and Issue Resolution: Addressing client concerns, resolving issues, and ensuring that any problems related to policies, claims, or service are handled in a timely and professional manner.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay informed on industry trends, new products, legislation, coverages, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
- Team Collaboration: Interact effectively with colleagues and clients, offering guidance and collaborating purposefully to achieve agency business goals.
- Off Site Operations: Occasionally accompany the producer on client and prospect meetings, as requested and attend quarterly team meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Key Characteristics:
- In-depth Commercial Insurance Knowledge: Thorough understanding of all forms of commercial coverages and risk alternatives, with a strong technical foundation in the insurance industry.
- Rating and Underwriting Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of insurance rating processes and underwriting procedures.
- Attention to Detail: Highly meticulous with the ability to maintain accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment, while remaining calm and composed under pressure.

- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and agency management systems, with the ability to leverage technology to enhance efficiency.

- Confidentiality and Discretion: Proven ability to handle sensitive information with discretion, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree and a minimum of five years of insurance experience or any combination of education and experience needed to satisfy the requirements of the position.
- Minimum of five years of commercial lines experience.
- Must hold a property and casualty Producer’s license for the lines of insurance being written.
Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, have reliable transportation and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to complete trainings as required by the Agency.
