Job Title: Driver Helper
Department: Avesta Management Services
Reports To: Avesta Management
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
Schedule: Monday thru Friday with start times between 7am and 10am working 8 - 10 hours a day
SUMMARY A Driver Helper is an assistant who works closely with a pickup and delivery driver to ensure timely and efficient delivery of freight. The primary responsibility of a Driver Helper is to assist the driver with the loading and unloading of goods, navigate routes, minimal interaction with customers and handle paperwork as needed as freight is being dropped and picked up.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-
· Assist the driver in loading and unloading the freight onto the truck
· Follow the delivery route as dictated by the driver
· Help the driver navigate through traffic and avoid delays
· Haul heavy loads using pallet jacks or other equipment as required
· Deliver freight to customers and obtain proof of delivery
· Help with paperwork and record keeping as needed
· Communicate effectively with the driver, dispatch, and customers
· Other duties assigned as necessary

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE – High school diploma, general education degree or equivalent
LANGUAGE SKILLS -Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must possess analytical skills and ability to think quickly.
OTHER SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS- Computer literate, PC and mainframe; working knowledge of MS Word and Excel. Must be able to type. Ten-key required. Effective time management skills. Achievement oriented/goal directed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Able to lift, carry, and move heavy items up to 50 pounds regularly
Standing, walking, and bending for extended periods of time, climb stairs or ladders if necessary, able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, be physically able to handle long hours of standing, walking, sitting, and moving heavy objects both by self and over 75lbs with equipment assistance.
