Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Temporary QC Lab Assistant to support the Quality Control Laboratory by creating, documenting, and maintaining an accurate inventory of laboratory reagents, chemicals, and analytical standards. The ideal candidate will ensure proper tracking, labeling, and storage of these materials in compliance with laboratory protocols, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Develop and implement an accurate inventory tracking system for reagents, chemicals, and analytical standards.
- Maintain detailed records, including lot numbers, expiration dates, storage conditions, quantities, and supplier information.
- Conduct routine inventory checks to ensure stock accuracy and availability.
- Monitor and forecast usage trends to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
- Assist in the procurement process by coordinating with purchasing to ensure timely reordering of reagents, chemicals, and standards.
- Ensure proper documentation of inventory transactions (e.g., receipt, usage, disposal) in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
Labeling and Storage Compliance:
- Properly label reagents, chemicals, and standards in accordance with laboratory SOPs, regulatory guidelines (e.g., OSHA, EPA, FDA, or USP requirements), and Hazard Communication (HazCom) standards.
- Ensure storage conditions meet manufacturer specifications and laboratory safety protocols.
- Maintain organization of storage areas, ensuring clear segregation of expired, quarantined, and active-use materials.
Safety and Regulatory Compliance:
- Adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standards (HCS), ensuring all chemicals and reagents are handled and stored safely.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all reagents, chemicals, and standards, ensuring they are easily accessible.
- Assist in the proper disposal of expired or unusable materials in accordance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations.
- Support internal and external audits by providing accurate inventory documentation and compliance records.
General Laboratory Support:
- Assist QC personnel with weighing, diluting, and preparing reagents as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
- Support general laboratory tasks as assigned by the QC team.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree in a scientific discipline (chemistry, biology, or related field) is preferred.
- Prior experience in laboratory inventory management is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Familiarity with inventory management software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to handle and store hazardous chemicals and reagents safely.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a regulated laboratory environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Standing, walking, and working in a laboratory setting for extended periods.
- Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required (gloves, lab coat, safety glasses, etc.).
Work Environment:
- The role is based in a controlled laboratory environment with regular exposure to chemicals and reagents.
- Strict adherence to laboratory safety protocols and quality control procedures is mandatory.
