The Aviation Maintenance Technician Instructor (AE-Type) will provide exceptional academic and on-the-job training (OJT) to foreign military students (with varying degrees of experience and knowledge) on electrical and electronic equipment repair and troubleshooting on the MH-60R. All training conducted in accordance with naval aviation maintenance programs, publications and governing instructions. Work will predominantly be conducted in the classroom and lab environment at CNATTU North Island, with additional instruction conducted in squadron hangar spaces and flight line.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- All typical Navy E-5/6 Aviation Electrician’s Mate (AE) O-level maintenance troubleshooting, unscheduled, and scheduled maintenance functions on an MH-60R.
- Specifically, to maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and instrument systems, including power generation, conversion, and distribution systems; aircraft batteries; interior and exterior lighting; electrical control of aircraft systems, including hydraulic, landing gear, flight control, utility, and power plant engine, flight and non-instrument-type indicating and warning systems; automatic flight control and stabilization systems; aircraft compass systems; attitude reference systems; and inertial navigation systems.
- Interpret schematics for electrical and electronic circuits.
- Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance/essential flight services in support of flight schedules, including daily, turnaround, special, hourly, and conditional inspections.
- Handling and servicing of aircraft.
- Proper documentation, in accordance with applicable procedures, on all maintenance activities conducted, via paper logs and records, and electronic logs and records systems such as NALCOMIS OOMA recordkeeping or other alternatives.
- Attending classroom and lab activities as a student (under instruction) and successfully completing a course of instruction in order to become a fully qualified instructor.
- Documenting all training activities in accordance with established procedures at hosting command and company requirements via paper and/or electronic recordkeeping.
- Preparing a personalized instructor guide (IG).
- If required, conducting maintenance tasks along with proper documentation on MH-60R in support of OJT training for foreign students.
- Safely conducting lab instruction.
- Acting as safety observer for the lab instruction provided by instructor colleagues.
- Maintaining a clean workspace, lab, and classroom environment.
- Assisting the lead maintenance instructor with necessary administrative tasks including preparation for student arrival.
- Assisting in other administrative duties including student and instructor scheduling and tracking training.
- Assisting the IMSO as required for support of student movement through the training program.
- Assisting with other administrative and non-administrative duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Journeyman-Level technical knowledge of MH-60R/S helicopter electrical and electronic equipment
- Journeyman-Level technical knowledge of electrical and electronic equipment troubleshooting and repairMH-60R or MH-60S O-level experience working as an AE. MH-60R preferred but not required.
- Journeyman-Level knowledge of CNAFINST 4790.2 Series, applicable Naval Aviation Maintenance Program Standard Operating Procedure (NAMPSOPs), Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs) and local NAMSOP instructions.
- Journeyman-Level knowledge of Naval Aviation Logistics Command Information System (NALCOMIS) OOMA, automated maintenance documentation system.
- Comfortable and effective communicator, presenter, instructor, trainer.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Prior instructor experience/tour preferred. Prior maintenance instructor strongly preferred.
- Navy Instructor NEC qualification or Navy Master Training Specialist (MTS) preferred.
