Job Summary
The General Manager of Ground Handling Services is responsible for the overall operational, financial, and personnel performance of the station while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and collective bargaining agreements (CBA). This role provides leadership and oversight to ensure efficient ground handling operations, maintaining safety, service excellence, and financial accountability. The General Manager fosters a strong employee relations environment and collaborates with labor groups, vendors, and governmental agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management:
- Oversee day-to-day station operations to ensure efficiency, safety, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Establish and implement operational goals, performance standards, and cost-control measures.
- Monitor operational performance and initiate corrective actions to improve results.
- Coordinate and provide functional guidance and supervision to contracted ground handling agents.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and internal audit standards.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and reliable operation in accordance with safety regulations and best practices.
Staff Management:
- Coordinates and provides functional guidance and supervision of contracted ground handling agents.
- Lead a positive employee relations environment, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements (CBA).
- Responsible for maintaining station facilities, equipment, and professional appearance standards for direct employees.
- Support performance management initiatives, professional development, and training for direct and indirect reports.
Financial & Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the station budget hours, ensuring financial targets are met while maintaining operational effectiveness.
- Determine and justify equipment, facilities, staffing, and training needs to achieve operational goals.
- Develop staffing forecasts and resource allocation plans to support service demands efficiently.
Customer Service & Stakeholder
- Ensure outstanding customer service standards for mainline, express, and partner airlines.
- Maintain strong working relationships with airport authorities, vendors, and governmental agencies (FAA, TSA, CBP).
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Aviation Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in ground handling, airline operations, or airport services.
- Experience managing a unionized workforce, including knowledge of collective bargaining agreements (CBA) and labor relations.
- Proven ability to manage financial performance, budgets, and operational planning.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and operational management systems.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Working Condition
- Work is performed in both office and airport ramp environments, requiring exposure to weather conditions and airport noise.
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in physically demanding conditions when necessary.
- May require travel for meetings, training, or operational support.
