Avid Systems is seeking a Solution Architect to support the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in developing and deploying an Open Payment System that enables Metro riders to pay for fares using contactless bank cards. The Solution Architect will work across development, DevOps, security, and network teams to drive technical solutions and ensure system security, performance, and integration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop an understanding of existing fare payment infrastructure and identify improvement opportunities.
- Design and maintain security controls for applications and infrastructure.
- Implement firewall configurations, network segregation, and device security.
- Enhance security monitoring and detection systems.
- Apply application architecture concepts to assist teams in developing application requirements.
- Ensure alignment with the WMATA Enterprise Architecture Framework, SDLC, and IT strategy.
- Prepare as-is and to-be architecture artifacts, including system diagrams, reference models, and staging plans.
- Collaborate with data and infrastructure architects, engineers, and program managers to maintain system integrity.
- Guide business analysts, test analysts, and documentation specialists.
- Assist with system hardening and vulnerability remediation to enhance cybersecurity.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in application architecture and system design.
- 5 years of experience coordinating work aligned with Enterprise Architecture Framework, SDLC, and strategic IT standards.
- 5 years of experience preparing architecture artifacts such as system diagrams, reference models, and software requirements.
- 5 years of experience working with data and infrastructure architects, engineers, and program managers to ensure system integrity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Finance, Business/Public Administration, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using Microsoft Visio or similar visualization tools for application architecture.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for documentation and communication.
- Experience working with custom web applications, security frameworks, and process improvements.
- Familiarity with Business Process Management (BPM) architecture and administration.
- Ability to document application architectures using Visio and Moqups.
