Position Summary:
The AV Design Engineer has extensive knowledge of architectural, facility and systems design, and the project management process of the net-centric audiovisual industry. This position is an integral member of the project team and is primarily responsible for providing the needs analysis, project design, planning, estimating, engineering, and client consultation for a project. This position also provides sales support by creating proposals, drawings, and requirement documentation.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in technology or equivalent experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years’ experience in design and engineering support within the AV/IT industry.
- Must obtain AVIXA CTS-D certification and CompTIA Network certification within one year.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Windows and Apple software.
- Advanced experience producing drawings and requirement documentation for architectural design packages.
- Proficiency in communicating drawing is needed for CAD staff.
- Advanced proficiency in testing and commissioning AV and IT systems.
- Advanced experience with hand tools and test equipment in the IT/AV trades.
- Strong multitasking abilities and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate working knowledge of International Building Code (IBC) and National Electric Code (NEC).
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the project team to secure new design-build and support jobs.
- Assist in needs analysis and interpreting customer requirements.
- Prepare cost estimates and develop drawings for AV/IT facilities and systems.
- Provide value engineering to match system performance with client budget expectations.
- Lead product demonstrations and "Proof of Concept" exercises as needed.
- Assist with bid reviews, take-offs, and submittal preparation.
- Conduct required testing and checkout procedures per specifications
- Lead efforts to obtain Final Acceptance approval from clients.
- Define design strategy in collaboration with the engineering team.
- Conduct periodic design reviews and mentor associate level engineers.
- Drive efforts to increase design efficiency, accuracy, and re-usability.
- Provide guidance and task designation for local engineering staff.
- Conduct on-site surveys weekly and engage in face-to-face meetings with customers and Account Executives.
- Attend safety and coordination meetings, as well as training classes to maintain certifications.
