The MTI team is looking to fill a key leadership position; Vice President, Engineering. The VP will be a member of the MTI Leadership Team with responsibility for the effective management of engineering, operations, and R&D functions in the company. The role includes recruiting, developing, and managing resources (staff, equipment, capital) to meet the strategic objectives of the company while ensuring technical project delivery, technical sales support, and research and development. This position represents MTI as the Technical Center Manager in the Global Operations organization.
- Management of Tech Center (TC).
- Build-up of local capability and capacity in alignment with AVL global strategy
- Support local and global sales.
- Responsibility for profitable utilization of Tech Center
- Support implementation of global MTI strategies.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Member of the MTI Leadership Team.
- Technical Center Manager for global operations.
- Resource Planning and management – Provide leadership and direction on all engineering resource issues at MTI. Develop a coherent recruiting, staffing and staff development strategy that supports the business plan and strategic direction.
- Engineering Management – Responsible for the management of engineering operations, including capacity planning, utilization, resource assignment and engineering metrics.
- Equipment – Responsible for all software and hardware, including the test cells.
- Engineering and Operations – Responsible for the management of performance expectations, performance feedback, development, and organizational design.
- Technical Quotation and Project Review – Provide leadership and direction on quotations and project reviews to assure that customer needs are met while satisfying utilization targets and project budget costs.
- Oversee R&D – provide direction and approval on R&D activities. Ensure plan is aligned with market needs.
- Work to continuously improve the relationship between AVLNA and AVLMTI.
- Play the lead role in managing and continuously improving MTI’s relationship with Graz and the affiliates.
- Provide leadership on all allocation of resources and project management
- Leads business planning process for MTI including coordinating middle and long-term planning based on market potential with the MTI Leadership team and key personnel
- Implements the presales process.
- Implements the sales process.
- Applies the principle of strategic and value selling including building organization capability
- Maintains customer care during project run time.
- Establishes, cultivates, and expands positive customer relations.
- Collaborates with the leadership team to optimize the proposal process and development of proposals.
Operational Tasks:
- Planning of:
- Tech Center resources (staff and facilities) based on market and PTE strategy
- Operational costs in alignment with sales plans (utilization, staff, facilities, operational expenses)
- Investments (facilities, equipment) considering local requirements and boundaries
- Resource development:
- Hiring & development of technical and administrative staff (selection, performance review, training plan)
- Set-up, maintenance, and adaptation of facilities in line with group standards
- Project Planning and execution:
- Planning and supervision of local projects concerning time, project targets and budget
- Planning and supervision of sub-projects from international organization
- Escalation of issues according to PTE escalation rules
- Application of corporate tools & processes in sales, planning and execution
- Capacity Management:
- Balancing of over- and underutilization with leveraging global Skill Areas Mangers as required.
- Leverage AVL best-cost capacities for margin optimization
- Involvement & management of local subcontractors if required
- Continuous monitoring and improvement of Tech Center efficiency
- Sales support
- Support of business development and project acquisition
- Responsible for offer scope, deliverables, required capacity and timelines
- Support proposals/offers by
- defining technical targets & feasibility
- providing timelines, quantities, and cost
- supporting pricing decisions
- technical contract verification
- signature of quotations according to sales process
- Contribute to PTE strategy development: Provide information about local market trends and OEM customer expectations
- Provide competitor & legislative information on a regular basis
- Definition of future local skill requirements considering both the mid & long-term
- Leadership:
- Operational decisions within TC
- Responsibility for quality of project execution and financial performance of the TC
- Responsibility to achieve the TC build up plan
- Responsibility to apply internal rules and procedures, local and global.
- Budget responsibility
Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or related field
- Master’s degree preferred
- 15 years engineering experience
- 10 years of experience in team leadership and/or execution of large and complex projects
- Experience in global business development and understanding of market needs
- Profound technical knowledge in powertrain development
- Highly developed intercultural competence
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Pronounced leadership skills
- High degree of goal-orientation and self-management
- Confidence in in-house and customer contacts, good networking skills and customer orientation
- Excellent communication skills in English
- International Experience
- Willingness to travel
