SALARY BENEFITS : Salary range $52,750-96,000 (pro-rated)
ASSIGNED WORKDAYS PER YEAR : 185 days 12 additional days (pro-rated)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS REQUIRED :
- Educational Requirements : Master's Degree and valid Indiana school counselor license
- Experience : None
The school counselor's primary role is to build relationships with students and families. The school counselors will address the academic, social / emotional, college and career needs of all students. The school counselor will follow the guidelines set by the comprehensive Avon Counselor Leadership Team (ACLT) program, which is proactive and preventive in its focus. School counselors may work with students in the classroom, small groups and individually, appropriate to the developmental level, to help ensure wellness, maximum learning, achievement, and growth.
Skills and Knowledge : The ability to be culturally responsive to students, staff members, parents and community representatives; understand student development, apply counseling theories and practices, provide short-term counseling in a one-to-one, group situations, and / or classroom setting; skilled in planning, scheduling and organizing tasks that pertain to school counseling; has effective interpersonal skills, exhibits collaborative skills with administrators and colleagues.
Essential Functions :
Orientation and enrollment
Testing activities and test interpretation
Scheduling and educational program planning
Career awareness and exploration
Maintain and or monitor necessary student records
Provide student evaluation and recommendations
Provide social / emotional short term counseling
Crisis intervention
Participate and or serve as the PAR for case conferences and serve as the case manager for 504s as appropriate
Provide district and community resources to families including making referrals for special education. Maintain logs of referrals to service providers, and other counseling related activities.
Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators on behalf of students' welfare, providing necessary resources and services.
Provide academic counseling
Gather and communicate information regarding high school programs, graduation requirements, tests, and results, career and postsecondary educational opportunities.
5. Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students.
6. Project a genuine care and concern for all students.
7. Other duties assigned by the principal and or district supervisor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
