General Description :
To assist the librarian in maintaining a well-organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which students and teachers can take full advantage of the materials available.
II. Qualifications :
1. Must possess high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must demonstrate aptitude for the work to be performed.
3. Must be able to work effectively with children and adults.
4. Knowledge of computer and office machines preferred.
5. Must be able to type at 35-40 wpm.
6. Prior experience in library work preferred.
Fluency in English and basic Spanish preferred.Must demonstrate the physical capability to perform the demands of the job.
III. Duties and Responsibilities :
1. Types and processes orders, reports, bibliographies, forms, library schedules, letters to publishers, catalog cards, etc.
Orders and receives books selected for purchase by the librarian.Maintains computer database, vertical file material and publishers' catalogs.Informs teachers and students of overdue books.Makes repairs on damaged books and processes severely damaged books to discard.Receives and processes all media ordered materials.
Library Manager - Duties and Responsibilities continued :
Helps teachers identify library books for specific units or projects.Inventories and prepares current magazines for shelving.Responsible for the annual inventory of library materials, and preparation of lists of missing books and books to be discarded.Maintains current inventory of supplies and suggests items for acquisition as needed.Oversees the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its displays.Processes, shelves and distributes textbooks.Processes requests for and distributes audio-visual equipment.Straightens up library after teacher meetings and parties.Manages and organizes school videos, ASSET and AV machines and materials as necessary.In the absence of the Librarian, is responsible for helping children and teachers select books and properly check them out of the library.Maintains current student database for entries and withdrawals.Coordinates Student Work Program for students unable to pay for lost books.
