Position Summary:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, positive, and self-motivated Audio Department Manager to oversee and grow our Maui shop operations. This role blends shop management, technical support for live events, and project coordination. You will be responsible for maintaining a high level of quality control, managing inventory, and equipment logistics, and ensuring that our audio systems are always show-ready. Your background in corporate events and live sound, along with excellent customer service and technical skills, will be key to your success.
Time Allocation:
- Warehouse Operations: Initially, 75% to 80% of your time will be dedicated to logistics, asset management, and equipment servicing in the warehouse.
- On-Site Event Support: Approximately 20% to 25% of your time will be spent providing on-site event support.
- Growth Opportunity: We anticipate an increase of 40% in on-site event support as a result of training and practical experience, broadening your role over time.
Responsibilities
Shop & Warehouse Operations
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the audio shop, ensuring a neat, clean, and orderly work environment.
- Manage inventory, quality control, and documentation for all shop resources and assets in collaboration with the Lead Warehouse Manager.
- Handle equipment logistics including rentals, maintenance, preparation, de-prep, check-in, and check-out.
- Assist with loading/unloading trucks, containers, and air freight to support multiple warehouse locations and event needs.
- Utilize Flex Rental Solutions software for project and inventory management.
Event & Technical Support
- Provide on-site technical support as needed during live events; operate, mix, and assist with commissioning audio systems.
- Assist freelance and contracted engineers/technicians with show preparations, including generating pull lists, wiring diagrams, and quality control checks.
- Set up, operate, and break down audiovisual equipment for live events, ensuring systems such as digital consoles, wireless systems, line arrays, and networking components are functioning optimally.
- Provide support across the AVS team by taking on various roles (e.g., technical operator for systems, A1, A2, Backline tech) as business demands dictate.
Maintenance & Repairs
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues, and perform basic maintenance, repairs, and component replacements (e.g., speaker parts, cable connectors, and configuring racks/cases).
- Keep all gear in show-ready condition through routine upkeep and proactive repair measures.
Additional Duties
- Perform daily tasks such as deliveries, cleaning, and errands to ensure overall operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years in audio roles (A1, A2, Systems) within the live corporate events industry, with a solid background as an Audio Technician/Engineer.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with digital consoles, wireless systems, line arrays, networking, and backline operations; familiarity with Flex Rental Solutions software is preferred.
- Technical Aptitude: The ability to generate technical diagrams using CAD/Vector tools and perform array calculations is a plus.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent time management, multi-tasking, planning, and documentation skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift at least 50 pounds; forklift certification preferred.
- Licensing & Transportation: Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation; ability to drive an 18' cargo box truck is an asset.
- Work Environment: Must be willing and able to travel up to 35% of the time and work extended hours as needed.
