Job Title: Video Department Manager/Video Engineer
Job Summary:
The Video Department Manager is responsible for leading the video department and managing assigned production process for AVS Audio Visual Services. This role involves managing the video team, ensuring seamless show operations, and performing various technical roles, including camera operation, graphics, playback, LED walls, video switching, and engineering. The manager will work closely with other departments to deliver premium video solutions that exceed client expectations for live events.

Key Responsibilities:
Video Department Management:
Team Leadership & Management:
· Lead and manage the video department, ensuring the team is well-trained and capable of fulfilling warehouse operations (pulling, QC’ing, and repairing) and show operations/technical roles.
· Schedule and oversee team operations, conducting regular meetings to ensure efficiency in execution and workflow alignment.
· Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure the continued development and success of the AVS team.
Technical Expertise:
· Fulfill technical roles during events, including but not limited to:
o Camera Operations: Ensure proper video coverage, including live feeds and recordings.
o Graphics: Operate systems for visual content and graphics integration during live shows.
o Playback: Manage playback systems to display pre-recorded content during events.
o LED Walls: Set up, calibrate, and operate LED video walls for stunning visual displays.
o Switching: Handle video switching operations for live broadcasts, ensuring seamless transitions between video sources.
o Engineering: Provide technical oversight for video systems, troubleshooting on the fly as needed.
Manage Show Operations:
· Oversee and manage show operations for live events, ensuring high-quality production from pre-show setup to post-show teardown.
· Serve as the lead on-site technician for key events, performing technical roles as needed, including but not limited to Camera Operator, Graphics Operator, Playback Technician, LED Technician, Video Switcher, and Video Engineer.
· Coordinate and support the technical setup of video production systems, ensuring smooth integration with other event production components, such as lighting and audio.
Equipment Management:
· Manage the video inventory within the rental management software to include inventory accuracy, repairs, routine maintenance, maintenance and usage.
· Manage routine maintenance and quality control checks on video equipment before and after events ensuring equipment is in optimal condition and ready for deployment at any time.
· Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for efficient handling, quality control processes and operation focusing on both safety and equipment performance.
Team & Client Collaboration
· Collaborate and provide technical input with the sales teams, project managers, operations and other AVS departments on quotes, production, inventory and operations to meet client expectations and deliver high-quality video solutions.
· Communicate effectively with clients, performers, and event teams to ensure professional and seamless audio execution from conception to conclusion, adapting to real-time changes.
· Provide technical support and guidance to AVS technicians and work collaboratively with the video and lighting departments for integrated event production.
· Contribute to post event evaluations to review performance and identify areas for improvement.
Budget & Procurement:
· Manage the video department’s budget, making strategic recommendations for new technology investments.
· Research, recommend, and assist in the procurement of new video equipment to enhance AVS's inventory.
· Build and maintain vendor relationships to ensure cost-effective procurement of advanced video production tools.
· Monitor departmental spending, ensuring adherence to the budget while maintaining high-quality services.
Compliance & Risk Management:
· Ensure video operations comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
· Perform risk assessments implementing preventive measures and contingency plans to minimize hazards.
· Ensure proper handling, storage, and transport of equipment, and maintain clean, organized, and safe work environments, including the warehouse and event sites.
· Stay informed of emerging safety standards and update procedures accordingly.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Video Production, Film, or a related field; or equivalent experience in AV production.
- 5 years of experience in video production management with a strong focus on live event production.
- Proven technical expertise in video systems, including camera operation, graphics, playback, LED walls, video switching, and engineering.
- Strong leadership experience managing technical teams, including scheduling, training, and performance management.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to work under pressure during live events.
- Solid project management skills with experience overseeing video production from planning to execution.
- Familiarity with AVS’s video inventory.
Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Ability to work effectively under pressure in live event settings.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
Certifications:
Relevant certifications in the video field are a plus.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work on/in confined spaces like equipment racks or sound booths.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working in various environments, including outdoor settings.
Travel Requirements:
- Flexibility to travel to various event locations and warehouse sites to support production nationwide.
