Program Description
Awaken is a host site for a specialized holistic restorative and educational experience for youth who have been trafficked. After experiencing trauma, it is vital to pace a victim's re-entry back into the school system and Awaken is one step in that re-entry process. The educational experience allows for the students' online schooling to take place at Awaken. This provides victims with the onsite support of tutors, mentors, and case managers to create a holistic educational experience. The Education Advocate will oversee and manage these opportunities.
Role Summary
The Education Advocate provides a safe, supportive environment for at-risk & victims of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) to participate in their online schooling activities. The Education Advocate is responsible for the coordination of hosting the online at the Awaken Center. Services are delivered from a strengths-based, participant-centered, culturally sensitive, and appropriate developmental approach. Particular attention is paid to a victim-centered and trauma informed approach.
Responsibilities
The Education Advocate will develop and monitor school plans by:
o Managing education center hours
o Transportation for student
o Creating individualized goal plans
o Maintaining progress notes
o Being a liaison with the school district
o Maintaining coordination with case managers, mentors, and tutors
- Become familiar with resources and community services that meet the needs of the students
- Assist students in accessing resources to help meet their individualized goals
- Cooperate with other agencies in the social service system to provide good networking of services
- Responsible for tracking all data necessary for grant reporting
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, Awaken meetings, and the Awaken training days
- Oversee and execute the daily operation of the AEC
- Ensuring the AEC is cleaned and the baby area is disinfected daily
- Available to offer transportation to and from the Awaken Center for school activities
- Assist in facilitating My Life My Choice, a prevention curriculum for at-risk girls which encompasses the following responsibilities:
o Attend weekly Multidisciplinary Meetings (MDT)
o Meeting with youth and caregivers to determine appropriateness for program
o Ongoing communication with parent/guardians, therapists, social workers and any other key team members
o Respond to weekly journal entries from youth involved
o Weekly check ins with the other group facilitator to review curriculum and debrief any concerns with participants
o Responsible for providing transportation to and from MLMC group
- Present prevention curriculum to schools and other community partners who serve youth
- Plan and execute all activities during fall, winter, spring and summer breaks
- Plan staff, and execute all Youth Achievement Groups
- All other duties as assigned by the Program Director

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree along with a current teaching or substitute license
- Clean Federal/State criminal background check, driving record and comprehensive drug screen
- Must be able to articulate a comprehensive knowledge of the issues of: commercial sexual exploitation, domestic violence, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, interpersonal violence, trauma, vicarious trauma, generational violence, and cycles of violence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suites
