What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graphic Designer/Production Artist position at Awards & More?
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The production and graphic design specialist will cross-train and be comfortable creating artwork for trophies, medals, plaques, awards (acrylic, glass, crystal), promotional items, screen printing and embroidery. This person will also operate an engraving machine. Other duties this person will be able to assist with include: film and vinyl application, operating a heat press, assembly of trophies/plaques, and answering the phone and waiting on customers in the storefront as needed.
EXPERIENCE
The candidate must have experience with page layout and demonstrate the ability to create a logical hierarchy from provided information. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and/or CorelDraw is required, with specific emphasis on using the pen tool to create vector images. This is an entry-level position and does not require formal experience in the industry other than a degree in Graphic Design or comparable experience. No engraving experience is necessary. Experience with screen printing is helpful, but not required. Computer skills, typing, attention to detail, and being adept at measuring are important.
QUALITIES
The ideal candidate will have the ability to multitask and effortlessly switch between tasks, while still paying close attention to detail. Organization is a key skill in this job as the candidate will typically be working on 12 projects at any given time. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are a must-have, whether trying to fit as much as possible on a standard sheet of metal, keep cost down on a multiple color shirt design, or make a customer's vision come to life. Pride in quality of work is a must as many of our materials are spoilable (markable or breakable). The ideal candidate will enjoy coming up with new solutions and new product ideas to keep the showroom fresh and be able to implement these ideas in addition to "official" workload.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Awards & More is a family-oriented business. We understand that family comes first, but excessive absences will not be tolerated. While somewhat seasonal in business, Awards & More is typically a fast-paced environment, but should be low-stress for the right candidate. Closed weekends and major holidays. PTO on an accrual system and a 401k with employer match are available to full-time employees. Hours will follow business hours (currently Monday-Friday 10-4:30; Wednesday 11-6).
