Responsibilities:
- Work within a treatment team to help provide coordinated mental/behavioral health care to patients;
- Provide documentation of patient care in accordance with AWARE policy and professional standards, utilizing AWARE's electronic health record as outlined, trained, and assigned;
- Create psychiatric care plans and integrate with existing behavioral/psychotherapeutic plans;
- Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and follow-up appointments;
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests;
- Prescribe appropriate psychiatric medications as indicated;
- Recognize physical health issues and refer patients to other care as necessary;
- Be available to teams as a resource regarding medications and treatments;
- Evaluate responses to treatments and medications;
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals both inside and outside of the organization;
- Act as an advocate for patients both within and outside of the organization;
- Provide education and support to staff, patients, and families on managing psychiatric illness and disability;
- Maintain licensure and certification required by AWARE, the State of Montana, and the federal government;
- Participates in peer/record review process and other quality improvement initiatives as assigned;
- Provides clinical supervision for up to five non-physician team members;
- Provides leadership and administrative support to the Medical Director and within teams served;
- Upholds compliance and quality standards of medical practice within teams served;
- Performs at or above productivity benchmarks identified by AWARE so that services are sustainable.
Requirements
Talents, skills, and abilities:
- Thorough knowledge and commensurate skills in providing psychiatric care to patients of all ages (with guidance from Medical Director as needed), including those with co-existing intellectual / developmental disabilities and/or substance use disorders;
- Must be able to work effectively with non-physician team members to provider supervision, collaboration, case consultation, and quality improvement initiatives;
- Accurate and effective written and verbal communication skills, and comfort working as part of, and sharing decision-making with, a therapeutic team;
- Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy degree;
- Successful completion of an ACGME accredited Psychiatry residency program;
- Board certification in Psychiatry, or board-eligible with plan for certification within 2 years;
- Active Montana medical license;
- Prescriptive authority including DEA all-schedules;
- Knowledge of computer-based data management programs and information systems, as well as medical records and point-of-interview technology; readiness to learn and adapt to new technology as it is adopted by AWARE, and to provide input to the selection and implementation of such technology;
- Ability to communicate effectively, in verbal and written form, with partners at various levels: patients, family members, physicians, members of the treatment team, and representatives of the community;
- Sound understanding of all federal and state regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.
