About Us

Founded in 2021, Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is a nonprofit, four-year MD program that will enhance traditional medical education with the arts, humanities, and whole health principles. The school’s culture embraces self-care to empower students to care for their own well-being as well as their patients’. The school’s state-of-the-art medical education facility is under construction in Bentonville, Arkansas on the Crystal Bridges campus, home to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Heartland Whole Health Institute. The school has been granted preliminary accreditation status by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

We are building a cadre of medical professionals trained in conventional medicine and in whole health, by reimagining medical education. We seek individuals who are excited by this endeavor. Faculty and staff members will contribute to the development and rollout of the ARCHES curriculum, which is built on evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. It includes the following six core elements:

  • Art of Healing
  • Research, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation
  • Clinical Care
  • Health Systems Sciences
  • Embracing Whole Health
  • Science of Medicine

All six areas of the curriculum will be interwoven throughout the four-year curriculum.

About The Position

The Assistant Director for Clinical Faculty Development is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs aimed at enhancing the teaching skills and professional growth of physician faculty at our medical school. This role involves collaboration with academic staff and faculty as well as affiliate partners to ensure that faculty development activities align with current best practices and the school's innovative curriculum and student-centered teaching approach.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific to The Position:

  • Collaborate with clinical affiliates and AWSOM officials to comprehensively identify the professional development needs of community-based faculty.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing professional development activities (e.g., workshops, seminars, and on-site training) tailored to meet the needs of community-based faculty.
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of policies, best practices and procedures designed to support and enhance community physician teaching competencies including learner instruction, supervision, and assessment.
  • Collect, analyze, and use outcomes data to continuously improve the effectiveness of community faculty development programs.
  • Develop and maintain a repository of resources and opportunities for community-based faculty.
  • Mentor and support physicians in their teaching roles, providing guidance on instructional strategies and curriculum development.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of faculty development programs through feedback and performance metrics.
  • Stay current with advancements in medical education and integrate new teaching methodologies.
  • Collaborate with academic leaders to align faculty development programs with institutional goals and accreditation standards
  • Maintain accurate records of faculty participation in development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Minimum:
    • Professional degree in healthcare (nursing, physician assistant, MD, DO)
  • Preferred:
    • Certificate as a nurse educator (CNE) or a Masters degree in education or related field

Minimum Work Experiences and Qualifications

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a practicing healthcare provider
  • Experience supervising and teaching healthcare learners in a clinical environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and ability to learn new software applications
  • Strong commitment to self-care

Preferred Work Experiences and Qualifications

  • Experience supervising healthcare provider instruction of learners
  • Experience teaching healthcare providers how to teach and supervise learners
  • Strong editing and writing skills
  • Support the mission and vision of the AWSOM
  • Demonstrate strong judgment, intellectual agility, and flexibility regarding overall priorities and day-to-day tasks
