The Derrick Hand is a vital member of the workover rig crew, responsible for performing various tasks on the derrick and rig floor. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of a Derrick Hand include:
- Rigging up and down, including assisting the operator with lining up the well service rig with the well.
- Performing servicing on the well, including removing horse head from pumping unit.
- Assisting in transferring rods and tubing from vertical racks to elevator.
- Operating tubing elevators for standing tubing in derrick.
- Assisting in picking up or laying down tubing, manually lifting tubing from rack onto work floor or vice versa.
Requirements
To be successful as a Derrick Hand, you should possess the following qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Valid state-issued driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR); CDL Class A or B preferred.
- Minimum one year of Derrick hand experience required; at least two years of workover rig floor experience required.
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written in English.
