About Axial

Axial is the largest software platform on the internet connecting buyers and sellers of small to medium sized businesses (SMBs).

There are over 30 million SMBs in the U.S. We exist to make a more efficient and transparent process for their owners as they take on one of the most important decisions of their life - selling their business.

Our mission is to unleash the potential of private capital markets for the benefit of all entrepreneurs.

We have amassed a network of thousands of firms within the private equity, investment banking, and business owner communities, and have built a pioneering digital transaction marketplace that radically improves the speed, confidentiality and success rates of small business M&A transactions. We are currently the market leader in our space, with 10,000 companies being brought to market every year, representing $70B in potential transaction value and creating ~750,000 connections between small business buyers and sellers annually.

The Role:

Axial's people are the lifeblood of the business. The achievement of our mission is a direct result of the number of highly motivated people we have that are excited to contribute to that mission on a daily basis, as well as our ability to consistently bring on top talent to join our team.

We are seeking a People Operations professional who is passionate about building a world class people function supporting a hybrid, remote-first distributed workforce. You will own many key functions within our team, while also having the flexibility in your role to be creative, entrepreneurial, and work on career-building projects. The ideal People Operator is a true generalist who is excited about wearing many hats, skilled across many HR areas, and eager to be a hands-on builder who has successfully scaled teams in the past.

This is a unique opportunity to report to Axial's Vice President of Operations, work closely with our management team to support their people objectives, and uphold and evolve Axial's culture during this pivotal stage of its growth.

Role Responsibilities

  • Own Axial’s new hire onboarding experience, and other employee life cycle changes such as offboarding and compensation changes while communicating with employees, managers and partner teams such as payroll or external vendors
  • Own performance management at Axial: performance reviews, growth development plans, development rubrics, and supporting managers with their direct reports
  • Own and administer people technology systems, including maintaining employee information, making system changes, troubleshooting and completing audits to ensure information accuracy
  • Oversee the relationship with Axial’s PEO that handles employment, benefits, compliance, and payroll
  • Support recruiting processes by posting specs to various job boards, managing relationships with outsourced recruiters, managing our Applicant Tracking System, thinking creatively about employer branding, training our team, and reporting on our performance
  • Utilize data, software, and artificial intelligence to deliver insights to the team, make data-driven decisions, and improve team productivity
  • Ensure a happy, engaged, and inclusive workforce through organizing employee events, mailing team gifts and swag, maintaining the Axial wiki, and being the primary point of contact and support for day to day employee questions.
  • Manage employment compliance regarding compensation, HR training, and required reporting
  • Running the office and solving issues as they come up. This includes ordering supplies, paying invoices/bills, working with the current suppliers and finding us new ones, and making our awesome office environment even better
  • Investigate, escalate, and resolve risks and employee relations issues in partnership with cross-functional teams
  • Provide generalist support to assist with new programs and projects, and devise your own ways to contribute to our culture and mission (learning & development, creative activities, and innovative ways to drive stronger relationships, etc).

Qualifications

  • Be a true people operations and HR generalist willing to pitch in wherever help is needed on the people team
  • A collaborative and flexible style, with a passion for thinking creatively and continuous improvement
  • Experience in high growth environment - ideally within technology companies, startups, or both
  • Self-starter, problem solver and a highly organized task master
  • Passion for supporting Axial employees and communicating people programs effectively
  • Experience partnering with payroll and supporting a multi-state organization
  • Experience managing a diverse group of team members including W2 employees and contractors
  • PEO/HRIS implementation experience is a plus
  • 6 years People Operations, HR, or similar experience required
  • Tech savvy - Google Suite, HRIS software, ATS software, Zoom & Slack
