Associate Manager of IT Application Development

This organization is currently seeking an experienced IT professional to serve as the Associate Manager of IT Application Development. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and providing technical solutions that align with business goals while maintaining development and architecture standards. You will lead a team of IT associates, manage multiple projects, offer technical direction, and collaborate with project and development managers to promote team excellence.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Development:
- Provide both technical and functional leadership to drive the successful completion of business and technical objectives.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, coaching and supporting team members.
- Inspire and motivate the team to overcome challenges, achieve career goals, and meet company objectives.
- Lead recruitment efforts to build a strong, balanced team with the right mix of skills to accomplish business priorities.
- Perform annual evaluations, set career development plans, and ensure associates have defined goals and training plans.
- Offer guidance and training on technical matters, identifying opportunities for team improvement.

Development Practices:
- Enhance and maintain the automated build and deployment process, ensuring regular, successful deployments.
- Design and implement automated unit testing frameworks and conduct thorough testing.
- Ensure adherence to security and compliance standards, maintaining the integrity and security of applications.

Project Oversight:
- Collaborate with the Project Manager (PM) to allocate the most suitable technical resources based on skill sets and project needs.
- Take ownership of one or more project modules, translating business strategies into technical solutions.
- Lead technical aspects of the project, including infrastructure, and ensure successful completion.
- Conduct system-wide technical analysis and communicate the project architecture to the team.
- Develop detailed solution designs and assist with work estimation, mentoring team members in the process.
- Perform code reviews and lead project design evaluations to ensure compliance with best practices.
- Actively manage project risks in collaboration with the PM and engage with vendors to provide solutions as needed.
- Occasionally provide support for applications outside regular business hours.

Technology Management:
- Promote and ensure the consistent adoption of tools, standards, and processes across teams.
- Participate in developing and selecting technical solutions, managing any necessary changes within the IT organization.
- Maintain broad technical expertise across hardware, software, operating systems, and support processes.
- Act as an escalation point for resolving operational and technical support issues efficiently.
- Focus on performance optimization, ensuring systems are running smoothly and efficiently.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 10 years of experience in IT, with at least 8 years working with enterprise software applications.
- 7 years of hands-on experience with core technology/development tools such as SMUL/SSO, SOA, CSS/HTML5/JSF/JQuery/JS, Portal Technologies/WCM, JPA, Hibernate, EJB, JMS, Web Services (JAX-WS, JAXB, REST, SOAP, JSON, XDS, WSDL, XSLT), Rules Engines (e.g., Drools), Jenkins, Maven, SVN, JUnit, .NET, C#, ISS.
- Proven leadership experience, preferably as a technical lead.
- Strong understanding of design patterns, unit testing, and Agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Java/Microsoft certification is a plus.
