Guidance Counselor Responsibilities
- Organize and implement academic and career planning activities for students
- Provide individual and group counseling focusing on academic planning, college applications, career exploration, internships, and financial aid processes
- Collect and analyze student performance data to guide counseling services and program development
- Facilitate scheduling processes and monitor students' academic progress toward graduation requirements
- Consult with families and faculty, providing feedback and guidance on student progress
- Collaborate closely with school leadership and social workers on student behavior management initiatives
- Develop strong relationships with colleges, universities, and employers to foster opportunities for student placement
- Present formal instruction or workshops on life skills, career choices, and college preparation
- Coordinate referrals to internal and external resources for additional student support
Guidance Counselor Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred
- Teaching certificate with a guidance counseling endorsement highly preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant school counseling experience
- Proven skills in project management, planning, and coordination
- Strong background in stakeholder engagement, including successful interactions with students, parents, and staff
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and implement effective, solution-focused counseling practices
