How does this role contribute to our collective success?
The Claims Enterprise Architect specializing in property and casualty insurance will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the IT architecture for claims systems. This role will play a critical part in ensuring that the architecture aligns with the overall strategic goals of the North American Claims Division, emphasizing scalability, flexibility, and agility to meet both current and future needs. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in integrating emerging technologies, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and guiding architectural decisions that drive enhanced claims automation, fraud detection, and customer experience. This role will report to the Head of Enterprise Architecture, but will be responsible to the agile value stream team lead, ensuring alignment with our agile principles and goals.
What will you do in this role?
* Define and maintain a long-term Claims Enterprise Architecture strategy that aligns with AXIS business objectives, IT Strategy, and claims value stream priorities.
* Develop and manage a multi-year technology roadmap for claims systems, incorporating emerging technologies such as AI/ML for claims fraud detection and automation.
* Drive innovation in claims technology, focusing on improving efficiency and enabling a seamless digital-first experience.
* Lead the architecture design for new and existing claims technology solutions, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.
* Collaborate with internal and external teams to validate designs and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles, compliance requirements, and operational needs.
* Champion the integration of cloud-native architectures, particularly using Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud, to modernize the claims ecosystem.
* Ensure the development of API-driven, microservices-based solutions for seamless integration across claims systems, underwriting, policy administration, and third-party data providers.
* Oversee the integration of advanced technologies like AI/ML and automation into claims workflows, focusing on driving efficiencies in claims intake, adjudication, and settlement processes.
* Ensure that claims teams have access to streamlined tools to enhance productivity and decision-making, with a specific focus on straight-through processing (STP).
* Work with the Data & Analytics team to create a robust data strategy that supports predictive claims triaging, fraud detection, and enhanced reporting capabilities.
* Ensure that claims systems comply with industry regulations, including NAIC, state-specific insurance laws, and data privacy mandates.
* Establish and enforce solution architecture standards and best practices, ensuring consistency across all claims initiatives.
* Lead architectural reviews, ensuring governance and adherence to best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
* Spearhead efforts to integrate legacy claims systems with modern platforms, supporting an Agile transformation within the North American Claims division.
* Evaluate and recommend new technologies and platforms that support the evolution of claims management systems, with an emphasis on scalability, security, and long-term maintainability.
* Work closely with business and IT stakeholders, including senior leaders, to define and prioritize technology initiatives for the claims division.
* Act as a bridge between technical and business stakeholders, ensuring that claims technology solutions meet business needs while staying aligned with broader strategic goals.
* Facilitate collaboration between cross-functional teams, including Data & Analytics, Application Delivery, and COE organizations, to ensure architectural consistency across projects.
* Lead architectural planning and coordination for claims technology projects, ensuring that timelines, scope, and resources are aligned with business objectives.
* Identify potential risks associated with claims technology initiatives and work proactively to mitigate them, ensuring successful delivery and minimal disruption.
* Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies in the insurance space, specifically in claims automation, AI/ML, and digital transformation.
* Foster a culture of continuous learning, encouraging teams to adopt innovative approaches to claims technology and process improvement.

About You:

What you need to have:
* Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field.
* 10 years of experience in IT architecture, specializing in claims technology or property and casualty insurance systems.
* Proven experience working with cloud-native architectures (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and a deep understanding of API-driven, event-driven, and microservices-based architectures.
* Strong knowledge of insurance claims processes, including FNOL (First Notice of Loss), adjudication, fraud detection, and settlement.
* Expertise in integrating legacy claims systems with modern platforms to support Agile transformation.
* Deep understanding of AI/ML applications in claims automation, fraud detection, and predictive analytics.
* Strong expertise in workflow automation tools and modern claims platforms.
* Experience with low-code/no-code platforms and event-driven architectures.
* Knowledge of regulatory requirements impacting claims, including NAIC, state-specific insurance laws, and data privacy mandates.

In this role, you will typically be required to:
Embrace the hybrid culture offered at AXIS, you need to be in office 3 days per week.
Much of the work involves using computers for data entry, analysis, and communication. Comfort with prolonged screen time is necessary.
While much of the work may be desk-bound, there might be occasions requiring mobility within the office environment, such as attending meetings or accessing filing systems.
What we offer:
For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $185K to $240K for New York, $170K to $230K for Redbank and $165K to $185K for Alpharetta. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.
In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
