Position Summary: The Patient Services Specialist is responsible for all incoming phone calls and scheduling appointments. In addition, the position will require getting appropriate insurance authorizations, managing referrals and follow up appointments. Manage registries per practice policy and support patient centered medical home practices. PSS is also cross trained in all Health Support functions and able to provide back up for a Health Support position.
Responsible for supporting Integrated Care Model and proper electronic medical record (EMR) documentation, while providing a high level of patient care in a fast-paced office environment.
Our ideal candidate for our Patient Services Specialist position will have a bachelors degree in administration, office or health management field. High school graduate with five years of experience in a medical office setting in lieu of degree, and minimum three years experience in medical office supervision/lead capacity. The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of a current TB
- Active BLS, a current TB result (within one year) WILL BE REQUIRED in order to attend New Employee Orientation. If you are the successful candidate, further information regarding these requirements will be available during the interview and onboarding process.
These are requirements for the position and are not paid for by Axis Health System.
Salary: $20.00 (Base rate $17.50 Locale $2.50) - $21.05 per hour and considers preferred experience.

Physical demands: Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Position requires the ability to sit for longer periods of time at a computer. Employee must be able to travel between Axis health System locations. Employee may be exposed to stressful situations that involve enraged, distraught and/or intoxicated individuals with possible mental disorders. Possible potential exposure to communicable disease. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Required Skills:
- Require annual certification in CPR and First Aid and annual PPD testing.
- Require successful completion of medication administration class within one month of hire.
- Ability to work with minimum direction in order to anticipate and perform tasks without being instructed
- Ability to interact with people in a professional, friendly manner
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely through emails, memos, and manuals.
- Proficient knowledge of basic office equipment including computer, fax, and copier.
- Ability to travel within the service area of the Center
- Ability to follow established universal precautions and report potential exposure to a communicable disease immediately
Additional eligibility requirements: Annual Flu immunization, Annual TB screening, CPI training within 90 days of hire, BLS PRO certification required within 90 days of hire.
